The Battle of The Colony is the final battle in the war between the humans and Cylons as well as the final battle of the Cylon Civil War.  It is a rescue mission to rescue Hera Agathon who was kidnapped by Boomer and taken to The Colony to be experimented upon by Cavil and his forces.
The Battle of The Colony is the final engagement between the humans of Galactica and Cylons as well as the final battle of the Cylon Civil War.

Prelude
The Colonials begin a rescue mission, the most dangerous and daring offensive ever undertaken by Admiral William Adama and a skeleton crew, to rescue Hera Agathon, kidnapped by Boomer and taken to The Colony for experimentation (Islanded in a Stream of Stars).
After the Battle of the Resurrection Hub, the Cylons lose the ability to resurrect forever as only the Final Five know how to rebuild resurrection.  Cavil has Ellen Tigh captive ever since she downloaded into a new body after her husband killed her, but she only holds part of the secret to resurrection so he apparently comes up with a plan: he pretends he's going to have Ellen's head cut open to view her memories of how to build resurrection technology and has Boomer pretend to have a change of heart and let's Boomer help Ellen escape on a Raptor to Galactica.  In truth its all part of a ploy of his to get Boomer onto Galactica so she can kidnap Hera Agathon so Cavil can disect her in order to determine how she came into being so the Cylon race can continue.  Boomer manipulates Tyrol using his feelings for her so he helps her escape and she beats and ties up Athena, seduces Helo and kidnaps Hera.  Boomer steals a Raptor and although she is discovered, manage to get out of the hanger bay and jump away, causing damage to Galactica due to how close she was when she jumped.  Boomer makes over a dozen jumps to get to The Colony as for some reason her stolen Raptor wasn't upgraded with Cylon FTL drives like the rest of the ships in the Fleet and along the way, she bonds with Hera.  She eventually reaches The Colony and turns Hera over to Cavil, but shows remorse for her actions.

On Galactica, the Rebel Cylons convince Admiral Adama to allow a mission to check out The Colony, but when it comes back empty as Cavil moved The Colony just before the civil war, Adama refuses any further attempt to rescue Hera.  After seeing her picture on the memorial wall however, Adama changes his mind and gets the location from Anders who has basicaly become Galactica's Hybrid. Adama gives a speech about the rescue mission and calls for volunteers warning that the mission will likely be one way. However many people volunteer including Lee, Kara, Saul, Ellen, Tory, Tyrol, Hotdog, Racetrack, Skulls, Helo, Athena, Hoshi, Cottle (who Adama sends back), Ishay, Caprica Six and Roslin.  Racetrack and Skulls are sent on a reconnaissance mission and find The Colony in orbit of a black hole and also find the only place that a ship can jump in and out safely: within a kilometer of The Colony, point-blank range for The Colony's weapons.  The crew comes up with a plan and Admiral Adama turns over command of the Fleet to Hoshi while Romo Lampkin is made the new President.  Hoshi is ordered to wait for their return for 12 hours and is told if they aren't back after that, they're not coming back.  Once she's ready, Galactica jumps to The Colony.
The battle comprises of people, both rebel Cylon and human, who volunteer to stay aboard Galactica. There are only perhaps several hundred humanoid or humanoid fighters, but fortunately the Cylons also add a few hundred Cylon Centurions to the attack and defense forces.

Galactica jumps in directly in front of The Colony and The Colony opens fire with its gun batteries as it's too close for missiles or nukes for both sides.  Galactica takes a pounding until Anders manages to hack into The Colony and shut down its Hybrids and weapons. Once that's done Galactica immediately launches her Vipers to engage The Colony's Raiders while her Raptors FTL jump out of the starboard hanger bay, ripping open the side of the bay, but safely and quickly arriving at the battle. Galactica's gun batteries start firing at The Colony's gun batteries and Raiders and Galactica herself rams The Colony, punching a hole in the side which Galactica's nose rests insideThis allows a strike force made out of marines and Rebel Centurions to enter The Colony through one of Galactica's airlocks while another strike force led by Starbuck and including Helo and Athena cuts their way in from the Raptors. Racetrack and Skulls arm their nukes wanting to be weapons hot, but are killed when an asteroid hits their ship punching a hole in the window and smashing their helmets.
Galactica jumps in directly in front of the Colony, which opens fire with its gun batteries as it's too close for missiles or nukes for both sides.  Galactica takes a pounding until Samuel Anders (now effectively Galactica's Hybrid) manages to hack into the Colony and shut down its Hybrids and their weapon control.

Galactica immediately launches her Vipers to engage the Colony's Raiders while the battlestar's Raptors jump directly from the starboard flight pod in a flanking position to board the Colony. The Raptor's jumps rip open the side of the flight pod, but safely arrive at the battle.

As Galactica's gun batteries fire at the Colony's gun batteries and Raiders, Admiral Adama orders flank speed on Galactica, ramming the battlestar's dense "alligator-head" bow into the Colony. The collision punchs a hole in the Colony's side, Galactica's bow effectively docked in the enemy shipFrom Galactica's bow enters allows a strike force made out of marines and Rebel Centurions. Raptor strike forces led by Starbuck, Helo and Athena cuts their way in elsewhere on the Colony's hull.

The fight is not without serious losses. Racetrack and Skulls arm their nukes aboard their Raptor but are killed when an asteroid hits their ship, punching a hole in the window and smashing their helmets.

Inside the Colony, both strike forces meet opposition from not only modern Centurions but older Model 0005 Centurions but make progress.

Starbuck's forces discover Boomer, who has retrieved Hera out of sympathy. She hands the child over to the strike without a fight, warning the team that their Raptors have been destroyed and cannot be used for escape. Fortunately, the battle plan was to abandon the Raptors and return to Galactica through her bow.

After Athena kills Boomer, Starbuck's team meets up with Lee Adama and his team, and they retreat to Galactica's airlock to get out of the Colony.

Cavil, Simon and a Number Five go on the defensive, leading a platoon of Centurions in a boarding attack on Galactica.  Gaius Baltar and Caprica Six are among the many that help defend the ship from the boarders.

Helo is wounded by a Five and Hera runs away and Athena goes after her at Helo's request.  Laura Roslin, working in sickbay, senses Hera's return and chases after her as well in what becomes a parallel of the Opera House Prophecy, each person in turn part of a vision that protects the child from harm as she wanders through decks filled with gunfire and enemy forces. Caprica Six and Baltar eventually find Hera and take her with them to CIC, recreating their movement as seen in their visions, encountering the Final Five there, standing on the CIC balcony.

Inside The Colony, both strike forces meet opposition  but make progress.  Simon still intends to disect Hera, but Boomer makes a choice and kills him and picks up Hera and carries her away.  Starbuck's group encounters Boomer who gives up Hera to them without a fight saying she made what is likely to be her last choice and she owed the Admiral one.  She also warns them that their Raptors have been destroyed so they can't get out that way.  Athena then shoots and kills Boomer.  Starbuck's team meets up with Lee's and they retreat to Galactica's airlock to get out of The Colony.  Cavil, Simon and Doral discover the dead Simon and decide to go on the offensive and lead a platoon of old Cylon War era Centurions and current era Centurions in a boarding attack on Galactica.  Baltar and Caprica Six help defend the ship from the boarders.  Helo is wounded by a Doral and Hera runs away and Athena goes after her at Helo's request.  Roslin, working in sickbay, senses Hera's return and chases after her as well in what becomes a parallel of the Opera House Prophecy.  Caprica Six and Baltar find Hera and take her with them to CIC which is the parallel to the room they entered in the vision and saw the Final Five.  In CIC, the Final Five are on the CIC balcony in similar positions to the vision and Doral and Simon are dead while Cavil has been captured.  During an explosion, Cavil takes Hera hostage and plans to leave with her as he sees her as the only hope for his kind.  Baltar tries to talk him down during the standoff, trying to end the cycle of violence and Cavil finally agrees when Tigh offers resurrection in exchange for Hera and Cavil leaving humanity alone permanently.  Cavil calls off his forces and the battle seems to end.
Cavil has been captured in CIC.  During an explosion, Cavil takes Hera hostage and plans to leave with her as he sees her as the only hope for his kind.  Baltar successfully talks Cavil into a truce in exchange for Hera's life. Saul Tigh sweetens the pot by offering resurrection in exchange for the permanent true between humanity and Cylone.  Cavil calls off his forces and the battle seems to end.

Unfortunately things start up again when Tyrol breaks the download of the resurrection specs in order to kill Tory Foster after he learns she killed Cally.  Believing themselves to have been betrayed, the Cylons restart their attack, but after the Doral and Simon that joined them in CIC are killed, Cavil swears and kills himself. The Raiders resume attacking Galactica.   Meanwhile another asteroid hits Racetrack's Raptor and causes her dead hand to accidentally hit the launch button for her nukes and they fire into The Colony, badly damaging it and knocking it out of its orbit, causing it to start to be sucked into the black hole. Admiral Adama orders Starbuck to jump the ship and she uses the numbers she assigned to The Music as the coordinates as she doesn't know the rendezvous point, and Galactica jumps away as The Colony is sucked into the black hole and destroyed.
But the truce is short-lived. Admiral Adama orders Starbuck to jump the ship--anywhere. The Battle of The Colony is the final engagement between the humans of Galactica and Cylons as well as the final battle of the Cylon Civil War.

The battle comprises of people, both rebel Cylon and human, who volunteer to stay aboard Galactica. There are only perhaps several hundred humanoid or humanoid fighters, but fortunately the Cylons also add a few hundred Cylon Centurions to the attack and defense forces.

Racetrack and Skulls are sent on a reconnaissance mission in a Raptor. They find the Colony in orbit of a black hole and also find the only place that a ship can jump in and out safely: within a kilometer of The Colony: point-blank range for The Colony's weapons.

Admiral Adama turns over command of the Fleet to Hoshi while Romo Lampkin is made the new President of the Colonies (as Lee Adama chooses to stay on Galactica to fight).

Battle[edit]

The collision punchs a hole in the Colony's side, Galactica's bow effectively docked in the enemy ship. From Galactica's bow enters allows a strike force made out of marines and Rebel Centurions.

Broken Truce[edit]

But the truce is short-lived. Shortly after the Final Five begin downloading their knowledge of resurrection to the enemy forces, Galen Tyrol breaks the download, learning of Tory Foster's murder of Cally Tyrol. Believing themselves betrayed, the Cylons restart their attack, but after the Doral and Simon that joined him in CIC are killed, Cavil swears and kills himself. The Raiders resume attacking Galactica.

In space, another asteroid strikes Racetrack's Raptor and causes her dead hand to accidentally hit the launch button for her nuclear missiles. All the missiles hit the Colony, badly damaging it and knocking it out of its orbit towards the black hole nearby--and pulling Galactica with it.

Admiral Adama orders Starbuck to jump the ship--anywhere. Without the coordinates to the Fleet's location, she realizes that the mysterious music played by her father forms FTL coordinates. She enters the coordinates and Galactica escapes as the Colony is sucked into the black hole and destroyed.

Aftermath[edit]

With the Colony's destruction, the only Cylons remaining are the Rebel Cylons.

The toll of battle and her structural frailty are too much for the old battlestar. As she completes the jump, Galactica suffers a series of critical structural failures, breaking her backbone and permanently losing her FTL ability.

But Starbuck's coordinates take Galactica to a habitable planet, lush and filled with life. They name this planet Earth and the population of the Fleet is able to settle without concern.

The Rebel Cylons settle down with them and give the Rebel Basestar to their Centurions to find freedom and their own destiny.

The Hybrid Samuel Anders is instructed to autopilot Galactica and the last of her charge into the Sun, destroying the ships and allowing humanity and the Rebel Cylons a fresh start, sans technology.
