Barry Garner is a Colonial officer on Battlestar Pegasus prior to the deaths of Admiral Helena Cain and Colonel Jack Fisk. Before his promotion, he was an engineer.

Barry Garner is the third officer to assume command of Battlestar Pegasus after the ship was integrated in Admiral William Adama's Fleet. He assumed command after the suspect death of Commander Jack Fisk (The Captain's Hand).

Despite Garner's lack of command insight when jumping to recover Raptors 718 and 314, he died a rather heroic death by sealing the coolant leak causing a pressure drop in Pegasus's FTL Drive system, entering a compartment that was venting out to space and sealing the hatch behind him. The emergency repair allowed the Pegasus engineering crew to repair the ships FTL drive, thus escaping a hopeless battle.

As a Commander, Garner did not inspire great confidence in his abilities. He was considered paranoid and barely competent by Starbuck, and the events surrounding his death showed that he was needed more below-deck where his abilities and leadership in Engineering were apparently sorely missed. It is unclear how his absence will affect the engineering crew's proficiency during future crises.
