Soft on STO?

Capricans to Govt: Stop Being Soft on Terrorism is a The Caprican Politics article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Februarius 23, YR42.

Story[edit]

n case you haven't heard, the residents of Caprica City are mad. Really mad. Citizens have been fuming for weeks that the government has not taken more severe measures to bring the MAGLEV bomber (or bombers) to justice. Many Capricans think Amanda Graystone's proclamation of her daughter's involvement in the MAGLEV attacks is reason enough to bring a wrongful death suit against the Graystones. However, frustrated citizens have been told repeatedly by government officials that, without GDD evidence, there is little that can be done to bring justice to the families of the victims and peace of mind to scared Capricans. We've also received word that, even with the implication of Zoe Graystone, approval for a search of the Graystone home has been repeatedly tied up in administrative red tape.

MATT and other concerned citizen groups have been meeting to plan protest actions for the coming weeks.

When asked to comment on the upcoming protests, a MATT spokesperson told us, "The government is being soft on terrorism and we're not going to take it anymore."

Strange things afoot at the Graystone Estate?

Suspicious Activity on Graystone Property is a The Caprican News article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Martius 28, YR42.

Story[edit]

Avid bird watcher Jane Contos was looking through the telescope set up on her back porch. She was tracking the path of a raptor as it flew over the lake behind her house when something caught her eye: Flames. Ms. Contos quickly called the police to report a fire on the Daniel [sic] and Amanda Graystone's property across the lake. The fire dissipated before Contos could get the Caprica City Fire Department on the phone so she hung up. But what she saw next we even [sic] more bizarre. "It looked like some kind of statue at first" said Contos, "like a gray or silver...thing. It looked kind of like that monster from that movie that terrorized Oranu." As there is no law against lawn statues, Contos didn't think much of it. But a few hours later, it was gone. "If I had a stronger telescope I could probably tell you more...but I know what I saw," she said.

Though the incident has not been confirmed (calls to the Graystones were not returned), strange things seem to be afoot with Caprica's first family these days. We at The Caprican will continue to keep you apprised of the situation as it unfolds.

'Graystone Foundation' Established is a The Caprican News article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Martius 6, YR42.

Story[edit]

Dr. Daniel and Dr. Amanda Graystone have just announced that, from now on, all profits from the Holobands and v-world licensing will go directly to a charity. The Graystones appeared on Backtalk last week to talk try and set the record straight about their daughter Zoe and her alleged hand in the MAGLEV attack.

During the show, Daniel Graystone speculated that the V-World might, in fact, be to blame. "We thought we could control the content in V-World, especially for kids, but we've failed. Clearly, I think the temptation to hack the code is too great."

The Graystones announced the establishment of their foundation during their appearance on Backtalk. Though they seemed to come up with this idea on the spot as they talked with Sarno, this could also be a well-calculated PR move. But with Holoband sales and V-World licensing making up 60% of their net, the business strategy behind this bold move remains unclear. Graystone Industries declined to comment for this article.

Vergis to Appear on Backtalk is a The Caprican Entertainment article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Martius 8, YR42.

Story[edit]

You heard it here first, dear readers. Tomas Vergis, the mastermind behind The Vergis Corporation, is scheduled to appear on Backtalk with Baxter Sarno this week! This will be Vergis' first public appearance since two members of his staff were brutally murdered last month in a break-in in his military testing laboratory.

As you may know, Tomas Vergis and Daniel Graystone have been in technology race since many of us here at The Caprican were in diapers. Every year Vergis and Graystone engage in a race to build the next best thing in electronics - a race that plays out in consumer pocketbooks and on the stock market floor. We can't say were complaining - it's this very rivalry that pushed these companies to develop the Holoband and the e-sheet. We don't know about you, but we'll be on the edge of our seats watching as this Tauron-born technologist chats with Sarno this week. Come on, admit it, so will you.

BREAKING: Dr. Amanda Graystone Apparently Jumps from Pantheon Bridge is a The Caprican News article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Martius 30, YR42.

Story[edit]

Police and rescue workers are still searching for Dr. Amanda Graystone after she was seen to fall (or jump?) from the Pantheon Bridge into the deep waters below - a drop of nearly 100 meters. Police say no note was found at the scene and would not confirm this as a suicide attempt. Sources say her wedding ring was discovered on the rail where she jumped and a pair of women's shoes was found nearby as well. It seems Graystone jumped from a balcony of one of the imposing concrete towers embellished with the busts of the 12 deities.

If this does turn out to be a suicide, Dr. Graystone would be far from the first to jump from the Pantheon, Caprica City's widest bridge. The bridge has always attracted its share of jumpers, yet only a few have survived the drop to the deep, turbulent waters below. This incident is especially troubling for Bridge and Tunnel Commissioner Timothy Caldwell, whose team was about to being installing safety rails on the bridge later this month. "This was the kind of incident we were trying to prevent," said Caldwell who was clearly shaken by the news. "Sadly, it looks like we were too late for Dr. Graystone."

This is not the first time in recent months that Amanda Graystone has made headlines. First, Daniel and Amanda Graystone lost their daughter Zoe in the MAGLEV bombing. Soon after, Amanda Graystone revealed her daughter's supposed link to the STO and involvement in the bombing. And Dr. Graystone made a surprise appearance during her husband Daniel's Backtalk interview, saving him from what might have otherwise been a disastrous episode. As the Global Defense Department investigation into the MAGLEV attack remains ongoing, many still blame the Graystones. Perhaps the last few months of intense scrutiny and pressure by the people of Caprica were just too much for Amanda Graystone.

Daniel Graystone could not be reached for comment. We will continue to keep you updated as this story develops.

Notes[edit]

  • The article says "being installing safety rails," where it should be "begin installing safety rails".

Sister Clarice Willow, Target of Bomb Plot
Sister Clarice Willow, Target of Bomb Plot is a The Caprican News article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Aprilis 5, YR42.

Story[edit]

The Caprica City Police Department has called on the Global Defense Department (GDD) for assistance in the investigation of the attempted murder of Sister Clarice Willow, the headmaster of Athena Academy. A car bomb was set off in Willow's car earlier this evening, setting fire to several cars around it and damaging the roadway in that area. Fortunately, Sister Willow was not in her car at the time of the attack.

"I was on my way to the Spaceport with one of my husbands. Suddenly I saw someone standing on the rail of the Pantheon Bridge and we pulled over to see if we could help." As Clarice and Nestor Willow stood on the edge of Caprican Bay looking up, in fear that the woman would jump, they heard a huge explosion behind them. "I'm still in shock," said Willow, "we could have been killed." There were no fatalities and no injuries were reported. The bomb, which was hidden in the trunk of Willow's car, seems to have been detonated remotely.

There is no word yet from the GDD on what might have caused someone to make Sister Willow the target of such an attack. Residents were stunned to hear of the plot to kill Sister Willow, a beloved figure in Caprica City.

"My Gods," said Olson Owens, a MAGLEV driver.

"That's despicable and appalling," said boutique owner Ellison Grace, clutching her chest, "I'm so relieved to hear she's okay,"

"I just don't get it. Who would want to kill a nun?" wondered Jorge Diaz, a retired computer engineer.

Citizens of Caprica City all well aware of the care and compassion with which Sister Willow runs the Athena Academy. She was instrumental in helping her students recover after the MAGLEV attacks and subsequent GDD raids on the school. Counselors will be made available to students who would like someone to talk to when school reopens on Monday.

Sources say this incident may be STO-related, or perhaps connected to recent Holo Cafe bombing. The investigation is ongoing.

Notes[edit]

  • Clarice Willow's name was originally misspelled "Clarisse Willow" in the title and text, but the Syfy site people corrected it.

Post your dating questions in the comments below and we'll pick a few choice ones to answer each week.

- Make eye contact with a beautiful woman on the MAGLEV but didn't know what to say to her?

- Parents not approve of your boyfriend from another colony?

- Think that guy on your pick-up pyramid team is making eyes at you and want to know if you should make a move?

Go ahead ask us anything.

Lots of love, PTF (Playing the Field)

Dear PTF...

Playing the Field: Lonely Girl from B.C. needs our help & more! is a The Caprican Lifestyle article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Februarius 23, YR42. This is the second article in the Playing the Field column.

Story[edit]

Thank you to all of our readers who wrote in last week to share their questions about dating. And though we can't get to all of them, we'll do our best to help as many of you as we can

Now, on with the column!

Dear PTF,

I'm just a shy girl from Brachyura City, Canceron. I know you urban hip metrosexuals here on Caprica think we're all a bunch of tanned airhead surfers from the healing beaches who will hop in the sack for a quick (rhymes with sack) with anybody. I am not some Bimbo from BC.

I have a brain. I want someone who stimulates my intellect but that seems hard to find here in this Hedonist Heaven called Caprica City. I tried hanging out at the library and going to lectures but I never meet anyone my age there.

Heck I even went to one of the V Clubs and the people there were just as vacuous. I was so desperate I was willing to settle for an 'elation. I'm beginning to wonder if I should have joined the Vestal Virgins when I had the chance?

Where do the smart people hang out in Caprica City?

Skylark Thibedeau

Dear Skylark,

We totally know where you're coming from. We've heard from lots of people who've moved to Caprica City for work or school (or just to live in "the big city") that it's hard to find love. Heck, many people wonder if Aphrodite herself would have been able to find a good date here in our fair "Hedonist Heaven." We've got a few ideas for you.

Surely you'll find a guy or girl who stimulates your intellect at one of Cap City's many art museums. Frak, why not make a day of it! Start by trolling for dates at the Ancient's Sculpture Exhibit at the Jasper House, hit on fellow museum goers at the Onyx Museum of Mankind, and then rub attractive elbows while checking out the Art Treasures of Kobol at the Caprica Art Museum.

But if you feel you've exhausted all of your real-life possibilities, perhaps you'd be willing to put your heart in someone else's hands. Check out the virtual dating site E-ros. Here some happily coupled folks will get to know you and play good old-fashioned Eros-style matchmaker. So far we've heard rave reviews from newly coupled folks who've gone and got themselves E-ros'd.

Oh, and one more thing—hedonism is what you make of it, but perhaps that's a column for another time.

Sincerely, PTF

Dear Playing The Field,

Okay - I admit - I've gone to the V-lounges a few times, just looking for some variety. But last week I met this totally hot Caprican - I thought - girl. Best V-Frak and best frak I'd ever had (wonder if the censors will let that through) ... turns out the girl I met was a nice girl from Leonis that I married over 20 yarrns ago - my wife! I saw her chat log and was really getting into what she was doing when I realized it was with me! How do I tell her that I've been going to the V-lounges - and that the best V-frak I ever experienced was with her??? Gods help me! :) John DeLancy

Dear John,

Thanks for writing. This isn't the first time we've heard of a person meeting someone in the v-world that they know in real life. But this is the first time we've heard of that person potentially being one's spouse. Dear readers, we have ourselves a winner!! Just for the record, we at PTF do not condone snooping in your partner's chat log. Having said that, what if you do something at the v-lounge that would let her know it's you. Re-create your first date or your marriage proposal, perhaps? It would be great if you both could realize that, even after 20 years, your love for each other (virtual and otherwise) is as strong as ever. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Kisses, PTF

***

Dear PTF,

Well I'm from Picon and my parents have liked all my boyfriends up to now. You see my current boyfriend is from Leonis and when they found out they literally went kamikaze and refuse to acknowledge him. I like him but idk how to get my parents to accept him, please help.

Yours Truly, Rowell Figueroa

Dear Rowell,

We're very sorry to hear that your Pican parents don't approve of your love from Leonis. Surrounded by such a multi-colonial mix of people here in Caprica City, it's sometimes hard to remember that inter-colonial dating is still such an issue, but it definitely is. It sounds like this is especially difficult because living on different colonies makes it hard to have your parents get to know your boyfriend. If you and boy Leonis are really committed to being together then they will come around. To help speed things along, try to let them know how well he treats you, how kind he is, and how committed you are to building a life together...unless he's an insensitive frakker who is mean to puppies and children. If that's the case, then we don't approve either.

Love always, PTF

***

That's all for this week. Wow, you frakkers sure are lucky you have us...and we are happy to have you. Don't forget to post your dating questions in the comments below and we'll pick a few choice ones to answer next week.

Go ahead, ask us anything.

More dating advice from PTF!

Playing the Field: Scorpian Man in Waiting, and More! is a The Caprican Lifestyle article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Martius 14, YR42. This is the third and last article in the Playing The Field column.

Story[edit]

Well, from your responses to our last column, it looks our advice is really coming in handy. So without further ado, here's some more love and dating advice for our loyal Caprican readers.

Dear PTF,

I'm in need of some advice. I'm originally from Scorpia but moved to Caprica about a year ago, in that time I've meet and fallen for a beautiful young lady. Problem being is that I've already confessed my feelings for her. She hasn't given me an answer yet so what should I do? I'm prepared to let her take as long as she wants on this but...personally I don't think she understands how much I love her. Any tips that might help me in this?

George Wohlfarth

Dearest George,

Sometimes these things take time. There are those of us that are more forthcoming with our feelings and there are those of us that need to test the waters a little before they jump in. Sounds like this young lady is walking around the pool's edge, dipping her toe in as she goes. We're all for being patient with the ones we love, but don't be "that guy" who treads water forever waiting for his girlfriend to take that leap. Believe us, waiting can get old (and tiresome) faster than you realize and sooner than later you might find yourself becoming resentful of this woman or pressuring her for an answer. Believe us, neither is an attractive quality. So if she doesn't return your affections soon, let her know that you deserve to be with someone who loves you for exactly who you are. And that someone should be able to tell you so. There are other fish in the sea and if she has you on the hook for too long, it's time to go fishing elsewhere.

xoxo Playing the Field

Dear PTF,

I have a problem. My girlfriend is from Aquarion and she wants to have a few kids if and when were married. The problem is on Gemenon, the priest want to bless each child born into a family. And they don't take interplanetary marriages too lightly. I want children, but the priest and my parents aren't gonna go for it. How can explain this to her in a way that lets her down easily? Or do i just say frak it to my planet, parents and culture and just raise kids with her here on Caprica, where no one cares? Your advice would be really appreciated.

Crewboy

Dear Crewboy,

It sounds like you're so caught up in your Gemenese cultural ways that you haven't even stopped to have a conversation about this with the woman you're planning to marry and have kids with! We suggest you spend less time worrying about how to "let her down easy" and more time talking to her about how much your culture means to you. There are plenty of people who've agreed to raise their kids in the culture or religion of their partner and maybe your girlfriend will be one of them. Or, if she has a strong connection to her Aquarion heritage maybe you can figure out a way to instill the values from both of your cultures into their lives. Though we are, of course, partial to living and raising a family here on Caprica, it sounds like your situation is a little more complicated than that. Now put down your e-sheet and go have a conversation with your girlfriend. It may take some time, but if you guys really love each other and are committed to being together, we're pretty sure you can find a way to make things work.

Love, PTF

Dear PTF,

My boyfriend is from a polygamous sect and my parents are monogamists from Gemenon (moved to Caprica for business and stayed - considering their beliefs I have never understood why!). I'm cool with plural relationships and we are already developing an arrangement with another couple but my parents are having a fit. Any suggestions? I love my parents but want to do what is right for me and my first marriage with someone of their beliefs did NOT go well!

FreyasCat

Dear FreyasCat,

It's never easy to feel like you're choosing between what your heart wants and what your parents believe. But just because your first marriage didn't work out, doesn't mean you should run screaming from monogamy. At the same time, you "being cool" with polygamous relationships is not the same as you desiring one. It sounds to us like maybe you need to spend some more time figuring out what it is that YOU want. Put aside the pressure you're getting from your boyfriend and your parents and listen to what your heart is saying. Only then will you be able to do what's best for you. And no matter what you decide, if it's truly what your heart desires, your parents and your boyfriend will understand. It may take some time but, trust us, they'll get there.

Sincerely, Playing the Field

That's all for now dear readers. Don't forget, post your love and dating questions in the comments below and we'll pick a few more to answer next week.

Go ahead, ask us anything.

Love PTF (Playing the Field)

p.s. For those of you who criticized the title of this dating column (Playing the Field), we're pretty sure you missed the subtle nod to pyramid. Don't worry, we forgive you.

Violence in the Virtual World is a The Caprican Opinion article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Februarius 24, YR42.

Story[edit]

It's 10 o'clock. Do you know where your children are? They could be spending their free time killing each other in violent video games in the virtual world. You know, typical kid stuff - no big deal, right? Wrong.

Having grown bored with the same ol' sex, drugs and fighting offered at seedy Holoband hotspots like the V-Clubs, teens are now indulging in a digitized free-for-all of blood and gore that can't be found anywhere else.

One of the more popular creations of the virtual hack is Xodus, a combat game in which players take on the personae of monster-like characters who are trained to stalk, attack and kill their opponents. Fighters can annihilate other players through electrocution, bludgeoning them with blunt objects or setting them ablaze, all within the confines of a disturbing virtual reality. The virtual crime world of New Cap City is a world free of morals in which players can do WHATEVER THEY WANT without consequences. Rumor has it that some hackers are even recreating the horrific events of the MAGLEV Train 23 bombing. This is not a game, people.

So, the problem is clear: Teens are becoming digital killers, and that is bad. The solution seems simple, too - parents, put a limit on your kids' tech time! A little discipline never hurt anybody, and it could keep your precious darlings from falling into the hack.

Top 5 Best V-Match Dates! is a The Caprican Lifestyle article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Martius 15, YR42.

Story[edit]

So you're new to v-dating (or so you say) and you want to make an impression. Or maybe you're fresh out of ideas for v-dates for this Saturday night? Well, as usual, we're here to help. We've scoured the city (OK, the staff) and come up with five of the best V-Match dates we've ever heard of...ever. Now, take some notes and you, too, can wow the one you're trying to woo!

1) James and Juliet are not Caprica City royalty - but they sure got close on their latest v-date! Between the thrones, the crowns, and scepters they were king and queen for a day...or for a few hours, at least. And the v-date was capped of with a meal fit for a...well, you know.

2) Tennis, anyone? Venus and Ella were such fans of tennis and tennis paraphernalia that they went to work at a tennis ball factory on their V-Match date! "It was really romantic," swooned Venus. "It's the smell," said Ella, "It really puts me in the mood."

3) Yes there is speed dating in the v-world, and that's exactly how Beth and Pete met. They both showed up at the V-Match speed dating event and, at first glance, realized they'd rather be anywhere but - they'd rather be there together! They dashed to the adjacent bar and spent the rest of the date inventing names and personalities for the other speed v-daters. Needless to say, that was first and last time they attended a V-Match speed dating event.

4) When the Barton family was attempting to bring a new member into their all-male group marriage, they knew they wanted to do something extra special on their v-date. So they strapped on their holobands AND their pyramid jerseys. Yes, to prove how much fun a marriage with them could be, they arranged for an Alpha Division-style pyramid game - with their potential betrothed as the starting serger!

5) Computer geeks Philomon and Rachel first agreed to meet up at a v-club for a drink, but soon realized they were bored of the same old thing. Next thing you know, they're flying Vipers up and down a beautiful (if, repetitive) coastline. Though Rachel's Viper ended up going down in flames, all was not lost. The two budding lovebirds spent the remainder of their v-date on a rock ledge overlooking the water (and Rachel's downed Viper) while they whispered sweet nothings about the potential of generative algorithms in the virtual world.

"Picon is one cold, rugged adventure waiting for you." —Sharon Edmonson

'P' Is For Paradise, 'P' Is For Picon is a The Caprican Lifestyle article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Martius 5, YR42.

Story[edit]

I've never been much of a "paradise" kind of gal. I'm not a "beach person," I burn in the sun and the world could probably do without the sight of me in a bathing suit. I am, however, something of a Rugged Outdoorswoman. And if you're like me, there's no greater getaway than Picon - for your body, mind and soul. You've heard about the summer months on Picon, when everything magically becomes "beautiful" and tourism explodes. I'm not talking about the summer months. I'm talking about the off-tourism season - when Picon is one cold, rugged adventure waiting for you. It will put hair on your chest. Truly.

I stayed in Queenstown, the capital city, little more than a fishing village around Penrose Harbor. I saw them filming a movie starring Tammy Lawns, who's actually even more gorgeous in person, if you can believe that. The hotel I stayed at cost close to nothing, and I never locked my door. Every morning I would buy some trinket (a drum, a flute, a hat) at the arts and crafts market they have set up along the main street.

It's cold. So very cold, it's glorious. The kind of cold that truly makes you feel alive. It gets under your skin and doesn't ever really go away. That ice in your veins, it makes your heart race. It makes you aware of every inch of yourself.

I would go fishing along the coastline, and go hiking in the hills, letting the cold envelop me, embrace me. My nights were spent at the local taverns, becoming friends with the loveliest people I've ever met.

The cold never completely leaves you. You never become complacent, or take things for granted.

You are truly alive on Picon.

I took a lover during my stay, a handsome young pilot about 15 years my junior. The Picons' belief in the concept of balance certainly extends to their sexual practices as well. Suffice to say that every little touch and gesture was reciprocated. And reciprocated well.

I stayed a week. I wish it were longer.

So, if you're like me, and fun in the sun and surf just doesn't do anything for you, if you truly feel your best when it seems that nature is almost picking a fight with you, then get yourself to Picon. You may never return.

Qualai University will attempt to defend their win from last year but they'll face some stiff competition. The schools competing for the coveted Best Robot Award are:

Caprica University Apollo University Qualai University Caprica City University 12 Colonies Technical College Delphi University Cloverdale College Tauron University

Apollo University is said to be fielding two teams in this years competition because of a recent donation that boosted the funding of their computer science department. Building materials for the competition are being supplied by Graystone Industries and The Vergis Corporation, co-sponsors of the event. The event will be held in CU's gymnasium and it's free and open to the public.

Capricans and Their Pets: Stop the Madness
Capricans and Their Pets: Stop the Madness is a The Caprican Opinion article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Martius 21, YR42.

Story[edit]

OK, I'll admit it. I've got baby fever. Say what you will about the "biological clock," but I'm telling you - every time I see a baby on the streets of Caprica City, I melt into a little pile of goo. So I'm walking down the street the other day and you can imagine my excitement when a cute blonde guy is walking towards me wearing a baby carrier. As he gets closer I see that it's, in fact, not a cooing miniature human with a sweet sweet face, but a DOG! Yes, you heard me. That guy had some sort of tiny terrier strapped to his chest.

Now I think it's great that people love their pets. And if you want to treat your dog like your kid, I guess that's fine, too. But a baby carrier??? Come ON! Dogs were made to walk! And our city streets are a fine place for them to do that. Now if that dog is some sort of multiple amputee, my apologies. In that case, by all means, carry it everywhere. But in the meantime LET IT WALK!

And it's not just the dog carriers that bug me. It's the doggie day spas, the diamond studded leashes, the designer dresses...I could go on. But on the other hand, I guess if this stuff makes dog owners happy - and it keeps the economy going after the recent MAGLEV attack - then who am I to complain?

But dog baby carriers? Come on...seriously?

Pantheon Bridge Getting New Safety Measures
Local Artist Makes Beautiful Bags From Billboards is a The Caprican Lifestyle article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Martius 22, YR42.

Story[edit]

If you've ever dreamed of owning a piece of Caprica City, now's your chance...sort of. Verda Lieb, a longtime figure in the local art scene, incorporates discarded electronic billboards and old Caprica City street signs into her wearable art. And the result is extraordinary - a unique aesthetic and sensory experience that you carry with you throughout the day.

Ms. Lieb, who holds an MS in electrical engineering from Caprica City University, first began making electronic art soon after graduate school. "I loved working with electronics, but I knew I didn't want to go into the computer industry and work for a company like Vergis or Graystone. One day I found a tiny LCD display in a trash can in the business district and that's really what started it all."

Verda's handbags and totes can be found at the Create boutique in downtown Caprica City. While she occasionally turns found electronics into sculptural objects as well, her priority is "function" right now. "My goal is to use materials most people think are trash, and to create one-of-a-kind utilitarian objects with them." Not only is Lieb rescuing some of the city's electronics from becoming waste, but she's also creating some gorgeous works of art! We here at The Caprican definitely approve!

Top 5 Off-Beat Vacation Destinations
Top 5 Off-Beat Vacation Destinations is a The Caprican Lifestyle article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Martius 22, YR42.

Story[edit]

So we've spent a lot of time talking about the highlights of Caprica City and we hope you come and visit soon. But what if you live in Caprica City and want to get away for a while? Well have we got a list for you! Check out the top five off-beat vacation destinations after the jump. It's definitely not all beaches, sun, and surf on this list! So head down to The Spaceport and kick off your unusual vacay! You'll be glad you did!

1) Kryos, Aquarion Like seeing democracy in action? Then this is the vacation for you! Every week on Aquarian, the government holds community meetings that are open to all. Though non-Aquarian residents aren't allowed to vote, there is a viewing room where you can watch the proceedings. Most issues on the floor are settled by majority vote. Even Prime ministers are chosen by two-thirds majority using this system. So go see for yourself what it's like to have a transparency in government!

2) Luminere, Leonis If you like energy drinks as much as we do, you'll love the tour of the Leonis Red bottling plant! That's right, on the outskirts of Luminere you can check out the factory where this debatably delicious liquid upper is made. Free samples of Red (complete with discreet poppy extracts) are given out during the tour but the guides monitor your intake rather closely...and for good reason. The last thing they need is a pack of The Caprican readers bouncing off their walls. And don't forget to stop at the gift shop at the end of the tour where you can bring back Leonis Red souvenirs to your friends back home (and for us, too, if you so choose).

3) Themis, Libran As we all know, Libran does not have a pyramid team to call their own. But that didn't stop the city's designers from building a beautiful outdoor pyramid arena. And that shouldn't stop you from visiting it! Yes, in the hopes that one day Libran would field a team, the city approved the construction of a mammoth stadium that now sits empty downtown. So get thee to Themis and see this marvel of modern architecture before Libran goes and gets itself a pyramid team!

4) Illumini, Gemenon So you'd like to brush up on the religion of the 12 Colonies but don't know where to start? Illumini, Gemenon's second city, is built around a massive Pantheon where every deity in the Sacred Scrolls, no matter how minor, is celebrated. Due to the exhaustive nature of this undertaking, The Pantheon is a giant complex of buildings constructed to house these celebrations of the Gods. In fact, it might take you several trips to Illumini to see it all - it really is that big!

5) Queenstown, Picon Don't let the wet, cold and cloudy weather keep you from visiting Picon's capital. Originally a fishing village, Queenstown has recently become a favored destination for outsourcing the filming of Caprican movies and TV shows. Though there are no official tours of the set, visitors and locals have reported numerous sightings of the cast of Nicky Casino - on set and off! If you're as big of a TV buff as we are, Queenstown has your name written all over it!

Corporate Espionage: Is It Going Too Far?
SPOTLIGHT: The Caprica Bay Waterfront is a The Caprican Lifestyle article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Aprilis 5, YR42.

Story[edit]

The weather is getting nicer (finally), and some folks have been asking us about our favorite outdoor spaces here in Caprica City. So let's say you're tired of Apollo Park with its green open fields and promenade walkway. Maybe you're looking for something a little different - well, look no further than the Caprica Bay Waterfront. Located in the shadow of the Pantheon Bridge, the Caprica Bay boasts more than two miles of waterfront walkways with drinking fountains, stylish street lamps, and surprisingly comfortable benches lining the stone path.

This area, once home to many old Caprica City factories, has become a favorite spot of locals and visitors, alike. If it's people watching you're after this is always a great place to do it; from joggers, to chess players, to elderly couples in love, you can find it all along the Caprica Bay Waterfront. Keep checking The Caprican for upcoming Waterfront special events like outdoor concerts, scavenger hunts, and art markets. Or just take a chance and maybe you'll stumble upon something great! Oh, and a little travel tip: Use the Durant Boulevard entrance on weekdays only - that entrance is too crowded on the weekends. Enjoy!

Graystone Computers Recycling Program is a The Caprican Lifestyle article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Aprilis 20, YR42.

Story[edit]

Welll, it looks like Daniel Graystone has finally gotten smart! As you may recall, many people in the last few months have been throwing their Graystone computers in the garbage to protest Zoe Graystone's potential involvement in the MAGLEV attacks. It looks like Graystone is trying to turn this into a plus! They're now sponsoring a Graystone Computer Recycling Program at all local Graystone computer dealers.

That's right, instead of trashing your Graystone computer, you can now donate it to a local school, charity, or non-profit organization. "You may not want your Graystone computer, but we know some people who might," said a Graystone Industries spokesperson. "Many organizations don't have the budget for this kinds of technology so why not give your computer a nice, new home?"

Not only will this help worthwhile organizations with smaller budgets, but it will also keep those computers from becoming e-waste - an increasingly common problem in Caprica City. While we're not sure everyone will participate in this kind of program, it definitely seems like a step in the right direction for Graystone Industries to get back in the public's good graces.

Notes[edit]

  • The article misspells "well" as "welll" in the first sentence.

The Caprica Census is coming!

Caprica Prepares for Upcoming Census is a The Caprican News article written by Sharon Edmonson. It was printed in Maius 3, YR42.

Story[edit]

You've seen the ads on the MAGLEV. You've watched the PSAs on CAP TV. Yes, that's right, the Caprica Census is coming! In just a few short months, you'll be asked by the Office of Statistics to complete a short questionnaire that will help the colony determine how to allocate future budgetary funds to better support the colony's infrastructure based on population. As you may recall, the last census of Caprica was taken 10 years ago and a lot has changed since then. Among the standard questions on the upcoming census (e.g. number of members in household, ages, colony of origin, etc.) expect to see some new questions that reflect a more modern Caprican society:

- Vehicles per household? - Members of household in group marriage? - Computers per household?

Also available for the first time is the ability to fill out a census form electronically. If you've registered your laptop ISP address with the Office of Records in the last year, you may be eligible for an e-census form. This method of electronic data collection will yield a more streamlined process and allow information to be aggregated more quickly. Though some worry about the e-census system being hacked, the Office of Records has taken great measures to prevent such an attack. They have teamed up with the Vergis Corporation's Systems Security Division to ensure a safe and reliable system. Despite such conveniences, most Capricans we interviewed for this story said they'd be sticking with the paper census again this year.

So expect to see census workers out in force this summer. Now, get ready to be counted!
