A large ship, apparently escorted by two basestars and approximately a dozen support vessels, is part of a Cylon fleet which tracked Galactica for some time after its departure from Kobol (Final Cut). The battlestar Pegasus located this ship and its escorts sometime after the Fall of the Scorpion Fleet Shipyards and used it to locate Galactica. The two ships rendezvoused and began planning a joint strike on it, but tension between Admiral Helena Cain and Commander William Adama quickly threatened to derail the operation (Pegasus).

The purpose of the Resurrection Ship is to "resurrect" Humano-Cylons when they are killed, and to give their conciousness a place to download if they are too far from the Cylon homeworld. This makes sense, for the crew of Galactica has killed a number of humano-cylons, and the Cylons obviously don't want to lose their conciousness and memories due to transmission errors over distance.
