Overview

Colors and symbol of Caprica

Caprica is a large blue-green planet, and the only colony directly seen by viewers thus far in the Re-imagined Series [1]. According to Gaius Baltar, Caprica was the seat of politics, culture, art, science, and learning. It was also one of the wealthiest colonies (Dirty Hands). In My Triumphs, My Mistakes, Baltar writes of a "Caprican Elite" as the emerging aristocracy of the Fleet.

Cities

The planet's largest population center was Caprica City, which served as the seat of all three branches of the Colonial Government and the capital of the Twelve Colonies. The city is completely destroyed in the Cylon attack on the Colonies. Caprica City is surrounded by other small towns and hamlets, such as Oasis [2]. Another major city is Delphi, famous for the Delphi Museum of the Colonies and also home to a large spaceport. The Cylons spared Delphi from nuclear bombardment in order to use it as a base of operations in their occupation of the planet (Downloaded).

On their treck across Caprica, Karl Agathon and Sharon Valerii explore two undestroyed and unnamed cities.

Other

  • The human resistance cell, led by Samuel Anders, operated near Delphi, having survived the nuclear attack by being in the mountains (and thus above the radiation).
Caprica City, before the Cylon attack.
An unnamed, destroyed city on Caprica (Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II).
  • A railway line can be seen below the balcony of Baltar's house on Caprica in "The Hand of God". What appear to be internal combustion engine powered vehicles, such as cars and trucks, appear extensively in shots of Caprica.

Spin-off

Main article: Caprica (series)

The proposed spin-off series Caprica would have been set exclusively on the planet, set 50 years prior to the Cylon Holocaust and followed the Adama and Greystone families.

  1. The military base seen in Kara Thrace's flashbacks in "Act of Contrition" might have been located on another planet than Caprica, but cannot be placed with certainty.
  2. Thus far, Caprica is the only planet of the Twelve Colonies that viewers have seen directly. The series' opening credits show Caprica City, as well as the nuclear bombing of Caprica itself.
