Baltar has authority over aspects of the business, including finances, which he refuses to give Gaius because he feels that he will blow them on gambling or on "the [[Miller (RDM)|Miller]]'s daughter". Baltar helps Gaius in his attempts to increase output from the farm, but these endeavors backfire, which in turn helps spur Gaius' desires to leave [[Aerilon (alternate)|Aerilon]] for a better life (''[[Battlestar Galactica: Origins 1]]''). More than a decade later, Baltar visits Gaius after his being injured in a car accident. Baltar beseeches his brother to help them, telling him that their mother, [[Vanessa Baltar|Vanessa]], has become ill and their farm is in dire straits.
