== Overview ==

: ''A copy of the Humanoid Cylon [[Number Six]], in the form of a woman who calls herself "[[Shelly Godfrey]]," physically arrives on ''[[Galactica]]'' and accuses [[Gaius Baltar]] of treachery.''

== Summary ==

* [[Gaius Baltar]] is mocking [[Number Six|Six's]] belief in God, which quickly escalates into an explosion of anger on his part -- and Six vanishes from his head.
* Called to [[CIC]], Baltar "finds" her there, and is confronted by [[William Adama|Adama]], who claims that "[[Shelly Godfrey|Miss Godfrey]]" has made some disturbing claims against Baltar.
* With a shock, Baltar comes to realise that "Miss Godfrey" is in fact a copy of Six, and that everyone can see her.
* "Miss Godfrey" then produces photographic evidence she claims will show Baltar planting a bomb in the [[Computers|Colonial Defense Mainframe]] on [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]] - a claim he strenuously denies.
* The image itself requires a full day of processing to reveal whether it does in fact show Baltar as "Godfrey" claims. Until that time, Adama suspends all work on Baltar's [[Cylon detector]] and places an embargo on Baltar leaving the ship -- something even [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] is unwilling to override.
* But Roslin herself is far from well -- during her call with Baltar, she collapses, causing a fleet-wide scare when [[Billy Keikeya|Billy]] orders the flight deck to make a fleet-wide broadcast requesting medical assistance. It transpires that Roslin has been overdoing her [[Chamalla|cancer medication]] - but the truth is hidden by a story that she has the flu.
* As [[Felix Gaeta]] works on enhancing the image, Baltar becomes more and more desperate for news - even following Gaeta into the head (lavatory) for news on his progress.
* Elsewhere, "Miss Godfrey" meets with Adama in private, and behaves in typical Six fashion - coming on to him.
* "Godfrey's" behavior prompts Adama to order a watch be kept on her movements on the ship.
*Elsewhere on ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'', [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]] and [[Cally]] are analysing the captured Cylon Raider, using [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]]'s notes, but not making much progress, despite comments to the contrary to [[Saul Tigh|Colonel Tigh]], who isn't fooled.
* Tigh visits Starbuck in sickbay, and despite her efforts not to fall for his reverse psychology, he goads her into getting out of her cot and going to help Tyrol and his crew.
* [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer]] arrives at the Raider, and after an awkward moment with Tyrol, suggests that they might make better progress if they treated the Raider more like an animal – a hunter – than a machine. Her behavior with the Raider, stroking it as she speaks, spooks Tyrol.
* During a meeting with Adama, at which he protests his innocence and tries to get Adama to make "Shelly Godfrey" to submit to a test with his Cylon detector, Baltar learns that Adama plans to have the detector dismantled if the photographic evidence points to Baltar's guilt.
* During his conversation with Adama, he continues to search the house in his mind, trying to find "his" Six.
* Driven to extreme measures as the time required to enhance the image draws to a close, Baltar sets off a fire alarm as a distraction, breaks into the lab where Gaeta has been working and tries to destroy the evidence as it does indeed reveal his face - only to be stopped by Adama and arrested.
* Down on the [[hangar deck]], Kara Thrace joins [[Lee Adama]], Tyrol and Cally in their investigations of the Raider - even to the extent of climbing inside the craft despite her leg injury ([[You Can't Go Home Again]]).
* In the [[brig]], Baltar is visited by Roslin, whom he believes has come to oversee his release. Instead, she is uncharacteristically vindictive, stating she ''knew'' he was a traitor.
* In the pilots' locker room, a tired-seeming Boomer opens her locker door only to find that the word CYLON has been written in yellow on the mirror on the other side. She desperately rubs it off with her hands, declaring that it's not true.
* As a result of Roslin's visit, Baltar finally sees his only way out is to do what Six has been urging him to do: give himself over to God's will. He gets down on his knees and starts praying.
* He repeats his prayer several times, and suddenly "Six" is beside him once more, telling him everything will be all right.
* Gaeta enters the brig and throws Baltar into a wild panic: he is convinced he is about to be summarily executed.
* Calming Baltar, Gaeta tells Baltar he is a free man - the photographs delivered by "Shelly Godfrey" have proven to be fakes.
* As Baltar is released, Adama learns that "Shelly Godfrey" has literally vanished, her watchers reporting she turned a corner in a corridor, and when they got to it, she had simply disappeared.
* On ''[[Colonial One]]'', Roslin holds a press conference publicly exonerating Baltar.
* While acknowledging the act, Baltar meets with Six in his fantasy world, and she points out that he is now next to invincible: he's been through a trial by fire, and no-one would dare accuse him of acting against [[The Fleet (RDM)|the Fleet]] again. She then starts stripping as she climbs the stairs to the bedroom.
* Following her, Baltar can't help asking her one question: was "Shelly Godfrey" ever really "here"? Her response is a coy smile.

=== On Caprica: ===
* [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] and [[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|Valerii]] are on the run from [[Cylon]] [[Centurion|Centurions]].
* As they camp out for the night, Helo confesses he couldn't bear to see anything happen to her.
* Hiding a smile of victory, Valerii silences Helo's words with a kiss, and as a thunderstorm threatens, they make love.

== Notes ==
*A week has passed since "[[Litmus]]".
*Boomer is accidentally revealing more and more of her Cylon nature.
*Helo has passed another test on Caprica; he’s now sexually active with Valerii.
*Gaeta admires Baltar and may be his one true friend on ''Galactica''.
*Baltar appears very close to completing his Cylon detector.
*Cylon Raiders may well be purpose-bred, semi-intelligent bio-machines.
*The Colonials use QWERTY keyboards.
*According to the "[[Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far|The Story So Far]]" special, which summarizes the first two seasons, it was another crewmember who wrote "Cylon" on Boomer's mirror. However this has not been stated by any other source.

== Analysis ==
*"Shelly Godfrey" herself is the clearest indication yet that Baltar's Six is not only an implant in Baltar's head - but that "she" is in direct contact with other Cylons scattered within the fleet, and they are working in concert with one another in order to fully subvert Baltar to their will. The idea that "Shelly Godfrey" is a Humanoid Cylon working to prevent Baltar from finalising his Cylon detector would make her arrival on the Galactica at the precise moment Six vanishes from Baltar’s head push coincidence to the limits of credibility.

== Questions ==
*Is Baltar's Six in communication with her "sisters" in the Fleet? ([[Resurrection Ship, Part I|Probable Answer]])
*Where did "Shelly Godfrey" go after her "disappearance"?
*If she is still on ''Galactica'', is Boomer unwittingly helping her?
*Will Baltar forgive Roslin for her condemnation of him? ([[The Captain's Hand|Answer]])
*Even if he completes his Cylon detector, will any results it gives be trustworthy? ([[Flesh and Bone|Answer]])
*What is the range of actions in Baltar's fantasy world that are translated over into the real world?
*Who wrote "CYLON" on Boomer's locker mirror? Could it have been Ms. Godfrey, a suspicious human crewmember, or Boomer herself? ([[The Story So Far|Possible answer]]).

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

*''Baltar to Adama, confronting the accusation that he may be a traitor:''
:'''Baltar''': And I don’t like being accused of participating in the genocide of the human race based solely on the word of a woman whom I have already indicated to you may well be a Cylon agent...I did not conspire with the Cylons. I’m an innocent man who is being convicted in the court of public opinion without trial.

*''In sick bay, [[Kara Thrace]] is about to start walking after recovering from her knee injury, sustained in "[[You Can't Go Home Again]]":''
:'''Lee''': C'mon Starbuck, you can do it.<br/>
:(Kara gets out of bed, using it as a support.)<br/>
:'''Lee''' (mockingly): Ah, that smarts. (walks over to Kara on crutches) That smarts. But I. Don't. Care.<br/>
:'''Kara''': You don't care?<br/>
:'''Lee''': I don't care. Because your pain is my entertainment. (hands crutches over to Kara) Your Crutches of Death, sir. Use them wisely.<br/>
:'''Kara''': Shut up.<br/>
:'''Doctor [[Cottle]]''': It's going to hurt like hell, but it's supposed to.<br/>
:'''Kara''': (wryly) Thanks doc.<br/>
:(Kara starts out, slowly)<br/>
:'''Lee''': No pain, no gain. No cliché left unturned as, as Kara Thrace returns to the world of the walking. Can she do it or will she fall on her ass?<br/>
:'''Kara''': I swear to the Gods that I'm going to beat the crap out of both of you as soon as I get better... (pauses, retreats) No, I can't.<br/>
:'''Lee''': Yes you can. You did it.<br/>
:'''Kara''': No I can't. I can't. I can't.<br/>
:'''Cottle''': You're not going to get better lying on your back.<br/>
:'''Kara''': (getting on the bed) Oh, frak off.<br/>
:'''Lee''': We'll just take a break for five minutes.<br/>
:'''Kara''': I don't want to do it again. I want a pill. Now. Please.<br/>
:'''Cottle''': Sorry, but we're weaning you off the magic pills starting today. Besides, I need them for myself. (ambles off)

R.Adair:

'''''Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far''''' is a special program aired on the [[Sci Fi Channel]] that summarizes the first 2 seasons of the [[Re-imagined Series]]. The special was intended to attract new viewers and offers no new content for frequent viewers of the series.
<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.thefutoncritic.com/pr.aspx?id=20060809scifi01|title=The Futon Critic|accessdate=2006-08-11}}</ref>

On the evening of August 13, 2006, NBC affiliates on the U.S. West Coast broadcast the special following the Cincinnati-Washington [http://www.nfl.com NFL football game]. The program was aired repeatedly on the Sci-Fi Channel in August/September 2006 prior to the [[Occupation|season 3 premiere episode]].

Narrated by actress [[Mary McDonnell]] (voicing the narration in her character of [[Laura Roslin]]), ''The Story So Far'' ignored several supporting and significant story arcs and character developments in the interest of the program's limited 43 minute air time.

Significant information missing from the special program included:

*The trials of [[Helo]] while marooned on Caprica in season 1
*The arrival of the battlestar ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' and [[William Adama|Adama]]'s conflict with its commander, Admiral [[Helena Cain]]
*The relationship between [[Galen Tyrol]] and [[Sharon Valerii|"Boomer" Valerii]]
*The presidential coup that led to the arrest of Laura Roslin, the declaration of martial law and the temporary splitting of the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]].
*Any reference to [[Billy Keikeya]], a central supporting character in season 1

The feature provides two possible answers to questions posed in the series:
*The civilians who were left behind with Helo on Caprica, died due to radiation poisoning.
*Crewmembers who suspect Boomer of being a Cylon wrote the word on her mirror in "[[Six Degrees of Separation]]".

Areas that attempted to plot significant events of the show included a recap of the miniseries in the program's first twenty minutes, a synopsis of the first season by the half-hour mark, and generally concise information on season 2. Several scenes were generally shuffled out of their aired timeline to explain important relationships.

The program was available in several online venues for free viewing, including [http://www.apple.com/itunes the iTunes Store] (iTunes software required).
* [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Boomer]] and [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] make a difficult landing on ''[[Galactica]]'', replete with incomplete CGI. This scene was to separate two of the prominent sex scenes, the first with [[Gaius Baltar]] and [[Number Six]], and the second with Boomer and Chief [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]]. According to [[David Eick]], his "biggest regret" is cutting the scene, as "[w]ithout it, I think we inadvertently created this idea that we were trying to be the show that was going to have lots of sex in it."<ref>{{cite_book|last=Bassom|first=David|authorlink=|authorlinkurl=|coauthors=|year=2005|title=[[Battlestar Galactica: The Official Companion]]|pages=31|editor=ed. First, the opening scene where Boomer is confused about where she is and what she is doing is extended with Boomer finding a towel in her bag and using it to wipe her dirty hands. Next, Boomer returns to her room after replacing the detonator and encounters Boxey, who picks the lock on her locker and goes through her duffle bag, taking the aforementioned towel. [http://video.scifi.com/player/?id=85455#videoid=3201 The next scene] is another extension during Tyrol's investigation of the sabotaged water tank in which he touches a piece of metal and gets dirt on his gloves of the same type Boomer wipes off at the beginning of the episode. In the next scene, Boxey accompanies Tyrol to see Boomer after she discovers water and waits outside while they talk, attempting to sell Crashdown some [[ambrosia]] he swiped from the engine room. Finally, after Boomer and Tyrol finish talking Tyrol notices Boxey is holding the towel he swiped from Boomer earlier, makes the connection between the stains on the towel and the dirt from the water tank, and realizes that Boomer may actually be responsible.
The following scenes are from the [[Season 2.5 DVD]] unless otherwise noted.

*[http://video.scifi.com/player/?id=85455#videoid=22424 &#91;2&#93;] When talking and drinking with Shevon, Apollo tells her about his relationship with his father. He reveals that he doubts if he can live up to him.
*[http://video.scifi.com/player/?id=85455#videoid=22424 &#91;3&#93;] Paya and other kids are on a Raptor en route to an unknown destination. She looks outside the window and enjoys the view.
* '''Scene 5''': Apollo gives Shevon an extra 100 [[cubit]]s to buy "something nice for [[Paya]]". In return, Shevon gives him a small picture holder, which was her father's. Despite his objections, he takes the picture holder, which is traded for information in a later scene aboard ''Prometheus''. That scene was also deleted as well.
* '''Scene 9/10''': [[Hoshi]] discovers the body of Commander [[Jack Fisk]], after the latter has been garroted by [[Phelan]]'s henchman.
* '''Scene 18''': On ''Galactica's'' flight deck, Apollo exits the [[Raptor]] only to be welcomed aboard by [[Anastasia Dualla]], who is asked to direct Lee to [[William Adama|Admiral Adama]]'s quarters. Dualla confronts Lee regarding his avoidance of her, telling him that she overheard what he told [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]] after the [[Battle of the Resurrection Ship|destruction of the Resurrection Ship]]. He claims that he was "sick, delirious" and that "whatever [he] was feeling, [he] never meant to dump it on [her]". She calls him out on it, claiming that she thought she was the only one who sometimes believed that she was "better off on [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]]" with the dead. He then chastises her voicing this feeling, despite harboring it himself. After climbing up the ladder to the upper deck, he gets a flashback of looking down on [[Gianne]], his former fiancé, with whom he broke up with prior to the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|Cylon attack]].
*:'''Note''': Dualla is from [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Sagittaron|Sagittaron]], not Caprica.
* '''Scene 25''': Apollo reports to ''Pegasus's'' CIC. He asks to report to Commander Trammel, but ''Pegasus's'' new XO, [[Renner]], informs him that Trammel is on his way to ''Galactica'' for "meet and greet" with Admiral Adama. When Apollo requests to see all logs, duty rosters and security reports, Renner begins his spiel about running warships for 20 years and is insulted that ''Pegasus'' crewmen are not running the investigation. Renner also laments that ''Pegasus'' was fine until "''Galactica'' showed up" and that Adama can take his investigation and go "[[frak]] himself"; Apollo pins Renner to the table, saying that there was a time where he would have agreed with him. Renner orders the readied [[Colonial Marine Corps|Marines]] to stand down. Lee then warns Renner that if he should "say another word against my father, [that] next time, you won't get up" and leaves the CIC.
*:'''Note''': Barry Trammel would later be renamed to [[Barry Garner]] due to legal issues resulting from someone actually having that name. Also, Renner is never seen or mentioned again during [[Season 2 (2005-06)|Season 2]].
* '''Scene 39''' (extended): Apollo regains consciousness in Shevon's quarters on ''[[Cloud 9]]'' after being attack by Phelan's men. When he goes to lay down on the bed after the altercation, the scene transitions to a flashback where Shevon talks to Lee about [[Gianne]], commenting that it's a "pretty name"; Lee reveals that it took him weeks to pronounce it correctly, although Gianne never corrected him, and that Gianne herself hated the name since no one could ever pronounce it correctly. After she comments that he must have truly loved her, he remarks that he wondered whether he really did. The flashback ends, resuming on the carcass of Fisk's killer with a bullet hole in his head and Lee calling for help.
* '''Scene 46-46A''': Apollo is on ''[[Prometheus]]'' attempting to find Phelan. When walking the corridors, he is stopped by [[Linden]]. Apollo asks Linden where Phelan is, but he doesn't reveal anything until Lee gives him something to trade. After a slight altercation, Lee trades off Shevon's pocket picture holder and gets his information which leads him to Phelan's bar. Apollo opens the hatch and is stopped by a guard, who he disables, as well as a second guard that comes charging down the corridor. As Apollo is viciously punching this second guard, a third henchman surprises him by putting a gun to his head, commenting: "Ever get the feeling that your living the same bad day again?"
*:'''Note''': John Mann, who played Linden, also portrayed ''Galactica's'' [[CAG]], [[Jackson Spencer]], in the [[Miniseries]].
* '''Scene 47''' (Extended scene): Apollo attempts to comfort Shevon after killing Phelan at the table. Shevon rebukes Apollo, saying that she can never be Gianne. There is a brief flashback when Lee tells Shevon that Gianne was pregnant; Apollo comments that he didn't think he was ready to be a father.

=== [[Scar]] ===

*[http://video.scifi.com/player/?id=85455#videoid=22425 &#91;1&#93;] (Extended Scene) Because Thrace is late, [[Kat]] has started early with a briefing. When she finally arrives, Thrace berates Kat for starting and continues by recapitulating the Fleet's strategic situation.
*[http://video.scifi.com/player/?id=85455#videoid=22425 &#91;2&#93;] Starbuck and Helo work out in the gym. The two talk about Kat's attitude, and Helo compares her to behavior to Starbuck's.
*[http://video.scifi.com/player/?id=85455#videoid=22427 &#91;3&#93;] [[Joseph Clark|Joseph "Jo-Jo Clark]] receives some pep-talk from Kat before he sorties in his Viper.
*[http://video.scifi.com/player/?id=85455#videoid=22427 &#91;4&#93;] Apollo listens helplessly on the wireless while BB is called by [[Scar (Raider)|Scar]].
*[http://video.scifi.com/player/?id=85455#videoid=22490 &#91;5&#93;] (Extended Scene) After learning and reporting that Jo-Jo was killed, Starbuck announced another auction that night.
*[http://video.scifi.com/player/?id=85455#videoid=22423 &#91;6&#93;] (Extended Scene) When Apollo asks her if she is OK, Starbuck replies "leading forward, hair on fire". After that she goes through a pre-flight check on her Viper and launches.
* '''Scene 5:''' (Extended scene). Jo-Jo asks why the Cylon ace is called Scar, to which Kat replies that [[nugget]]s are "easy pickings". [[Tucker Clellan|Clellan]] comments on [[Brent Baxton]]'s watch, saying that BB should leave his watch to him so that he doesn't have to bid on it at auction. Clellan saunters out of the pilots bunk, leaving the two nuggets bewildered about Clellan's comments about an "auction"... which we go to. At the auction, [[Lee Adama]] is auctioning off a copy of "[[Nymph]]", which [[Brendan Costanza]] wins. During this, Clellan looks at Baxton while pointing at his watch, which results in a concerned look on Braxton's face, as Braxton looks at his own watch.
* '''Scene 8 pt.:''' Starbuck attempts to jump over the tables in the officer's lounge. In this version, [[Karl Agathon]] attempts to pick up Thrace, but eventually sets her down in a corner nook of the lounge. Clark asks Adama whether its always "like this", to which Adama replies that it is not and "it gets a little rowdy". The scene ends when Thrace begins to tear up.
* '''Scene 21:''' The scripted version. [[Felix Gaeta]] announces [[Laura Roslin]]'s arrival in [[CIC]], to which everyone stands at attention. Once at ease, Roslin goes on to inform them that the mining ship has broken another drill bit, meaning a delay of eight more days. [[Saul Tigh]] does not react well to this and goes on to say that it isn't easy sending kids off to a shooting gallery; Tigh advocates that they should just take the metal they have mined and cut their losses. Roslin replies that the mining team has discovered a rich vein of ore, enough to build two entire squadrons of Vipers. The good news is that ''Pegasus's'' production team has turned out its first combat ready Viper. Roslin sternly informs Tigh that he must respect this operation, for it is vital to the long term survival of the [[the Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]]. After the discussion ends, a firefight is heard over the wireless, which results in [[Snake]]'s death. Roslin then asks whether the destruction of the [[Resurrection Ship]] resulted in a change of Cylon tactics, which [[William Adama]] replies that Thrace is working on it. The scene ends in [[Sharon Agathon|Sharon]]'s brig, where Sharon says that Scar may have died a dozen times.
*:'''Note''': Snake doesn't die in the aired version and is later mentioned as a replacement pilot for Starbuck.
* '''Scene 36 pt.:''' (Extended scene). Lee Adama tells Thrace that bright, shiny futures are overrated. Inebriated, Thrace asks whether Adama can picture himself with a wife, to which both hysterically laugh at the prospect. Thrace continues on this line of joking, saying that the Gods would give Adama a porch swing. Adama admits that he "thought about it once" and thought that a "stinky rugrat" (Thrace's words) would be nice.
* '''Scene 63-64:''' Alternate ending. Kat is walking through the [[memorial hallway]], where she hangs a picture of [[Reilly]]'s girlfriend. Meanwhile, Thrace is praying over her Lords of Kobol figurines, promising to return for [[Samuel Anders]].

=== [[Sacrifice]] ===

*[http://video.scifi.com/player/?id=85455#videoid=22421 &#91;1&#93;] Lee Adama and Dualla talk about their upcoming shore leave and Billy Keikeya. She says that she hasn't talked to Keikeya yet, but that she appreciates what she had with him.
* '''Scene 1-2:''' The scripted version of the flashback pertaining to [[Ray Abinell]]'s death. Here, Abinell is on the phone to [[Sesha Abinell|his wife]], telling her that he is finishing up work on replacing heat sensors on ''[[Greenleaf]]''. He then looks out the window and sees dozens of [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Cylon Raider]]s. Hurriedly, he says his goodbye to Sesha and hangs up, running down the corridor as a raider begins its strafing run. The windows of the compartment he is in are compromised and Abinell, despite his vain effort to hold on to piping that runs along the corridor, is sucked out into space.

=== [[The Captain's Hand]] ===

*[http://video.scifi.com/player/?id=85455#videoid=22421 &#91;1&#93;] Over dinner Adama and Tigh discuss [[Barry Garner|Commander Garner]]. Tigh wonders how he managed to lose two Raptors and complains about the general state of the ship. Adama says that he sent Apollo over to keep an eye on Garner and to give him someone he can trust. Tigh asks if Adama still thinks about making Apollo ''Pegasus'''s XO.
*:'''Note''': This clears up Apollo's somewhat unclear status in the aired episode. He is not officially Garner's XO.
*[http://video.scifi.com/player/?id=85455#videoid=22420 &#91;2&#93;] Tory Foster tells Roslin that they'll lose the election if they lose the Gemenese and urges her to reconsider her stance on abortion in order to win. Roslin asks her if that is also the right thing to do. Foster replies that she is not there to be Roslin's counsel or conscience, but to help her to win.
* '''Scene 9:''' (Extended scene). This scene starts off with Garner berating [[Kara Thrace]] for not keeping track of her pilots' whereabouts or situation. In this scene, [[Hoshi]] is relieved of his post, and replaced with [[Abel Thornton]], after failing to inform Garner that a [[Raptor]] was requesting launch clearance. Garner goes on to state that there is no excuse for the lack of cohesion that is apparent in the ''Pegasus'' crew.
* '''Scene 35:''' Thrace and Lee Adama argue over giving Garner respect; Thrace believes that the people should have a leader worthy of their respect. The scene ends when a call for flight deck personnel to report to their stations is made.
* '''Scenes 62-68:''' Alternate scene. The scenes that did not make the final cut for "The Captain's Hand" are the ones pertaining to [[Rya Kibby]]'s attempted suicide after her abortion. [[Laura Roslin]] is looking out a window on ''[[Colonial One]]''. Meanwhile, an orderly on ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' discovers that [[Rya Kibby]] has overdosed on pills and lays on the sickbay bed, unconscious and with a rosary in her hand. The orderly presses what appears to be an alarm button on the panel above the bed. In a scene that made the final cut, we jump back to ''Colonial One'', where [[Tory Foster]] brings in [[Sarah Porter]], the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Gemon|Gemonese]] delegate to the [[Quorum of Twelve]]. Porter begins attacking Roslin over not prosecuting Kibby for going through with the abortion. Roslin replies that the grant for asylum came before the law was signed and thus no laws have been broken; Roslin also adds that Porter has her "pound of flesh" and suggests that "you take your victory and move on". Back in ''Galactica''&#39;s sickbay, Doctor [[Cottle]] and nurses attempt to resucitate Kibby and ultimately succeed in doing so.
* '''Scene 69 pt.:''' Lee Adama jokingly asks Kara Thrace whether she has a brain. As they hug, [[Anastasia Dualla]] walks in; Thrace excuses herself and states that she'll put the boots outside for them. Dualla then states that "you're not going to tell me about promotions, are you?" and discuss Adama's promotion to commander of ''Pegasus'' and how their relationship will work now that they are separated from one another physically; they begin to make out after Dualla asks whether or not Thrace was joking about the boots outside the door.

=== [[Downloaded]] ===

The following scenes are from the [[Season 2.5 DVD]] unless otherwise noted.

* '''Scene 32:''' [[Laura Roslin]] visits [[Hera]] in ''[[Galactica]]'s'' sickbay and tearfully thanks her for [[Epiphanies|saving her life]].
* '''Scene 34-36:''' [[Gaius Baltar]] visits [[Gina]] on ''[[Cloud 9]]'' in an attempt to convince her to orchestrate Hera's theft. Gina resists as she views [[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|Caprica Sharon]] as a deserter and her "half-breed child" to be no better, she also scoffs Baltar's attempts to convince her on religious grounds; Baltar's Six appears and reiterates her view that Gina is a "broken machine" who has lost her faith in God. Gina bluntly reminds Baltar that Roslin is leading him by 3 points in the current polls, which is what his energies should be focused upon. Baltar fine tunes his argument, ultimately convincing Gina that the theft of a Cylon child from ''Galactica'' would be politically destructive as it would undermine Roslin's credibility as a wartime leader.
* '''Scene 34-36 (continued):''' [[D'anna Biers]], [[Tory Foster]] and Roslin hold a meeeting on ''[[Colonial One]]'', where Biers attempts to convince Roslin to grant her exclusive access to Hera as word of the birth has apparently spread throughout the Fleet. After the discussion, Roslin agrees, as it would be beneficial for both parties: people can see the Cylon child as looking the same as a normal human child and Biers gets exclusive pictures.
* '''Scene 48:''' Biers and Gina are on ''Cloud 9'' discussing how they will take the child. In her camera case, Biers has built a life-support system to secret the child off ''Galactica'', which is hidden in the bulky case. When Biers claims that "little Hera will be comfortable" in the contraption, Gina retorts that the child should not be named after a human god. When briefly discussing what they should call her, Gina says "just call her 13", which Biers favorably responds to.
* '''Scene 54:''' Biers is outside of sickbay with a [[Colonial Marine Corps|Marine]] and [[Layne Ishay]]. Ishay tells her that Biers can't see the baby. As Biers attempts to gain access, noting that Roslin herself approved the visit, [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] calls Biers a "stupid frakking vulture" when telling her that Hera is dead. Ishay claims that the baby died 20 minutes ago, which shocks Biers.

=== [[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]] ===

* '''Scene 63D''': [[Galen Tyrol]] is walking on the upper level of the maintenance deck. There are flashes of his dream of falling from this upper level. Over it all, [[Cavil]] is consoling the Chief, telling him that his fear is that he fears he is a Cylon, like [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Sharon]] and he should die.
* '''Scene 78''': Commander [[Lee Adama]] is laying in his bunk on ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]''. [[Anastasia Dualla|Dualla]] is also present getting dressed after their sexual encounter; she comments that Adama hasn't signed the papers and she is a courier on official business. Dualla asks him whether or not he believes [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] will lose to [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]], Adama replies that while he doesn't know, she is a fighter and tells Dualla that Roslin may be on the wrong side of the colonization issue. He also voices his concern that [[Kara Thrace]] has yet to return from her SAR mission to [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]].

=== [[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]] ===

* '''Scene 121''': Tyrol talks to [[Cally]] about [[Cavil]] over the Deck Gang's homemade liquor, who has been revealed as another [[humanoid Cylon]]. He remarks that Cavil almost got him to believe that he was a Cylon and that the two Cavils were thrown out of an airlock the night before. Cally tries to drink the liquor, but can't handle it, to which they both giggle. Cally then slowly approaches Tyrol and kisses him, much to his surprise, to which Cally replies "What, you didn't know?"
* '''Scene 123B''': Baltar is on a Raptor where he has flashbacks of meeting [[Gina]] on ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' and their subseqent encounters on ''[[Cloud 9]]''. This Raptor is headed to ''Cloud 9'', where Baltar enters the ship through a hatch where two [[Colonial Marine Corps|Marines]] are waiting and one follows to close the hatch. He is saluted by a fourth Marine as he enters a more decorative part of ''Cloud 9''.
* '''Scene 141''': Baltar is sitting on ''[[Colonial One]]''. Admiral [[William Adama]] gives the newly elected president news of ''Cloud 9's'' destruction, stating that they believe the nuclear warhead was stolen from his lab on ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' and that the warhead was smuggled onboard ''Cloud 9'' by a Cylon. As Adama explains his belief that this incident might be the first step to a Cylon attack within the Fleet, Baltar is having flashbacks of being tended to by Gina, as she dresses him after their sexual encounter. Baltar rebukes Adama's attempts to tighten internal security and instead believes that their first priority is to the people, and to see that they are safely established on [[New Caprica]]. Once that is done, he believes that the tragedy would be put behind them. Adama bluntly retorts that Baltar is not listening; he replies that "I don't have to listen. I'm the president." Baltar orders that "Settlement begins and begins now". After Adama leaves, Baltar remembers the sad look on Gina's face the final time he saw her.
{{official bsg staff posting}}

They are available on the Region 1 version of the [[Special:Booksources&isbn=0783288263|Battlestar Galactica Miniseries DVD]]. Below is a list, as they appear on that DVD.

* [[Billy Keikeya|Billy]] meets [[Laura Roslin]] aboard ''[[Colonial Heavy 798]]''; Roslin has just heard that she has terminal breast cancer.
* Adama remotely detonates ''[[Galactica]]'''s remaining munitions, as a part of the pre-decommissioning ceremonies. (Adama implies that his father was a military man in this scene, though we later learn that his father was a civil liberties lawyer).
* (Alternate Scene) Apollo has the Cylon missile chase him through the Colonial Fleet training range on the [[Trevor Moon]], subsequently destroying the missile.
* Roslin and 798's crew find Apollo's Viper adrift and recover the ship.
* [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]] and the [[Viper (RDM)|Mark II Vipers]] take on three unsuspecting [[Cylon Raiders]].
* Tyrol brings [[Boxey (RDM)|Boxey]] to the pilot's bunk, telling the child that ''Galactica'' is a very lucky ship.
* Cally confronts Chief Tyrol regarding his relationship with Valerii prior to boarding [[Ragnar Station]].
* An entire subplot was cut involving Boxey spread out over several scenes.
He goes on to tell her that the rank change doesn't really matter to him anymore and that he isn't sure about what does. They discuss how "frakked up things are" at present and talk about the arrival of ''Pegasus'' as well as the choices ''Pegasus'' made. Lee emotes that the reasons for them going out there and fighting and dying aren't clear to him anymore. He then leaves.

*[http://video.scifi.com/player/?id=85455#videoid=22418 &#91;1&#93;] After his first time with [[Shevon]], Lee Adama says that he always wondered how it would be spending time with a prostitute.

=== [[Scar]] ===

=== [[Sacrifice]] ===

=== [[The Captain's Hand]] ===

=== [[Downloaded]] ===

== Roslin didn't know Billy ==

This page says that Roslin chose Billy to accompany her to BSG because of his abilities. But he introduces himself to her in the mini-series, strongly suggesting that that is the first time they met.
== Had Campbell not left? ==

Had Campbell not left, would Billy be a Final Five instead of Tory Foster? Alternatively Billy's death could now be (on a stretch) considered part of some manipulation by Mr. All Powerful and Unknown to put Tory Foster in a position of Power.

== "Fairly" good looking? ==

First off, he's more than "fairly" good looking, but whatever. Anyway this is opinion so it should be deleted. I would do it myself but I'd rather someone with more experience edit the first sentence to keep it making sense, but without the opinion. Wow, I don't know if that last part made any sense. See what I mean? This is why I don't want to do it.

R.Adair: /* about that "Jesus" thing */

It always seemed to me that "God" is the Cylon central computer (or equivalent). My hypothesis is that the "re-imagined" Count Iblis will be the God.[[User:Kuralyov|Kuralyov]] 20:21, 21 May 2005 (EDT)

== from the author ==

Do you like this style of this God page that I wrote? I personally think the quotes are too numerous. I'll probably delete some quotes, but it's hard to know which might prove important. For example, Adama's speaking of God may be significant. I would love to have such quotes about other topics on other Wiki pages, as it's easier to do unbiased research this way.

Regarding your theory of the Cylon God being Iblis, although there probably is a head Cylon like that, their religion seems more abstract: "We are all God, all of us. I see the love that binds all living things together."

Should we include deleted scenes on Wiki pages? There is an important bit of dialog in KLG 1 about the legend of a jealous god who tried to elevate himself above the rest. Internal Six replies something like, "Blasphemy! There has only ever been one God."

I need help for the original series section of this God page. I haven't watched the original series since the late 70's! Feel free to do whatever you want with that section.

-[[User:MHall|MHall]]

I don't think we should include colonial expressions of "God", as I'm pretty sure they're just accidentals from the actors. - Chris

:The "… play God …" quote in particular needn't be considered monotheistic. A polytheist can easily refer to a singular god, and not mean the only God. "play god" can just as easily mean "play at being a god" as "play at being God himself".

:I would recommend removing that one at the very least from the monotheist list.
:--[[User:Brons|Brons]] 08:37, 3 December 2006 (CST)
:In complete agreement, I have removed that sentence. Even a polytheistic religion can refer to one god like this. --[[User:Talos|Talos]] 11:57, 3 December 2006 (CST)

== about that "Jesus" thing ==

I've seen the original US release of the miniseries once, but what I've watched the most is the UK DVD. And I can't recall Tigh saying "Jesus". Wasn't that dubbed over with something else? I vaguely recall reading something about that --[[User:Serenity|Serenity]] 08:02, 13 September 2006 (CDT)
:It's in both of my copies of the miniseries (the pre-season one release and the season one boxed set.) The Lord appears in mysterious dialogue. :P --[[User:Slander|Slander]] 15:16, 24 April 2007 (CDT)
::It's when Adama shows Tigh the really old picture. --[[User:BklynBruzer|BklynBruzer]] 15:18, 24 April 2007 (CDT)
::Yeah, I found it by now. It's really under the breath, which is why I missed it. --[[User:Serenity|Serenity]] 15:24, 24 April 2007 (CDT)
Should that even be mentioned in the article? I thought that was just a mistake made by the actor. --[[User:R.Adair|R.Adair]]

==pockets of Monotheism in the colonies?==

Ok this is a small matter but from the mini did anyone get the feeling that the worship of one single god wasn't completely unheard of in the colonies? Six's comments about God are mocked by Baltar but he isn't shocked by the notion of one god. Basically what I'm getting at is that in the real world we have people who claim to have gone back to pagan religions and they worship multiple gods...could the opposite have been true in the colonies. That a monotheistic religion was something some colonists adapted as a way to be contrary or as even an actual alternative to the kobolian faith? I'm not saying it was widespread or even a major issue within the colonies. Basically there were colonists who wanted to be different and were mocked for having what other colonists percieved as a wacky religion. --[[User:Meteor|Meteor]] 02 February 2007.
: Gaeta makes comments that seem to support this in "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I" when Adama reviews the texts regarding Kobol. -- [[User:Joe Beaudoin Jr.|Joe Beaudoin]] [[User talk:Joe Beaudoin Jr.|So say we all]] - [[Battlestar Wiki:Site support|Donate]] 22:11, 2 February 2007 (CST)
=="Scientific Explanation" Section==
Perhaps it's me, but I feel that this section is mainly theoretical and as such should not really be there. --[[User:Sauron18|Sauron18]] 16:38, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
:Erm, never mind ;) --[[User:Sauron18|Sauron18]] 16:39, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
:I really like it, and vaguely thought of something similar once (not in such detail, but that god is a real construct). It also reminds me of the Ultimate Intelligence in Dan Simmon's ''[[w:Hyperion Cantos|Hyperion Cantos]]'' which I read recently. But as you say, unfortunately it's way to speculative for this place. --[[User:Serenity|Serenity]] 16:42, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
::It's not in the series and has no sources and is wholly fanwank. I've rolled it back and await any sources. I can say that the Cylons are actually part of the ancient Matrix, but that doesn't make it true. --[[User:Spencerian|Spencerian]] 16:45, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
:::I'm well aware of that and said that it has no place here. I just think it's interesting nonetheless. --[[User:Serenity|Serenity]] 16:48, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
:::::Hello, I am the one who wrote the original article. As for the information, I got the quoted portions from the wiki on the subject http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity, which has multiple links to respected sources, especially http://www.kurzweilai.net/index.html?flash=1, which was where I first heard about the idea. If there is a specific way to write an article that includes respected sources, please let me know and I will consider writing one. As for it being "mainly theoretical" and "speculative," I would argue the "Background to FTL in the Re-imagined Series" article is just as speculative as no one in the series mentions the physics behind it. However, it did not stop someone on committing how FTL is scientifically plausible, thus showing how true to reality the show can be. I check this sight frequently and I am always disappointed that no one wrote about how the cylon "god" (or any "god") is scientifically plausible. In keeping with how true to reality the show can be, I thought it was appropriate to comment on how a "god" could actually exist in nBSG without relying on a supernatural basis or aliens.--[[User:DuMan|DuMan]] 22:01, 21 June 2007 (CDT)
::::::For what it's worth, there was some concern about the FTL article as well, regarding its validity to the show. At least as far as the scientific speculation is concerned. And some articles are indeed more speculative than others, making some case-by-case decisions necessary. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how well you source your information here, as the problem is its connection to the show itself.
::::::I understand that you put some effort into this, and even basically agree with it, or appreciate it. But aside from a minimal note like "It's hasn't been established whether this God is supernatural or can be explained with scientific means", I don't see how we can use any of this. --[[User:Serenity|Serenity]] 01:21, 22 June 2007 (CDT)
:::::::On the first point, philosophically, I do appreciate the FTL article and any article that adds more information to the show even if the show does not explicitly say it, so long as that information has a ''strong scientific'' backing. As the show holds so strongly to a tenant of expressing realism, I am sure its creators would incorporate any strong scientific concepts into their verse as they have with networking, nuclear arms, and AI, provided they had time to mention it.
:::::::As I read through the adjacent article on cylon religion, I was unable to find the source of your quotes, but regardless most of the articles on this site imply that the cylon god is a supernatural being. This article refers to the god as a "deity" and the article on cylon religion refers to it as a "metaphysical being." The latter term does support other definitions of the cylon’s god being more of an abstract concept or an idea rather than supernatural entity, but it still does not address the actual scientific plausibility of a "god" existing. Without a possible scientific explanation, readers will always walk away with the one-sided idea that the cylon god is and can only be a supernatural being, rather than something scientifically plausible as AI.
:::::::As for my intentions, I thought my writing was bad and wrote most of it off the cuff, thus I was not particularly proud of it. My main intention was to generate discussion on this topic and have its possibility mentioned in the article. ''Given the cylon's are strongly rooted in the topic of AI and the idea of a technological singularity branches off of that topic, I believe it is more than reasonable to at least mention it in this article''.
:::::::On a side note, please let me know if I should take my defenses personally to each member that criticizes my contributions rather than posting them here, as this page might become quite lengthy. And again, if you just demand better writing or sourcing, tell me exactly how (or refer me to the relevant section in the FAQ) and I will consider writing the article myself.--[[User:DuMan|DuMan]] 19:21, 22 June 2007 (CDT)
::::::::It's not the sourcing to external sites that's the problem, but the sourcing with the show. See what Spence wrote below. If you can back it up with some references to the episodes and quotes, though they will probably be somewhat indirect, good. I'd suggest that you don't worry about style for now, but produce a bullet point list of references from the show itself. Put it on your user page or maybe your talk page. Then we can see if we can really use it. If not, then we can always put in a small note without the speculation attached.
::::::::While lengthy talk pages are problematic too, splitting over discussion in several talk is really confusing. --[[User:Serenity|Serenity]] 04:52, 23 June 2007 (CDT)

:I'd write it up as a separate article, and attach the following template: <nowiki>{{</nowiki>[[Template:Plausible speculation|Plausible speculation]]<nowiki>}}</nowiki>,<strike> <nowiki>{{Essay}}</nowiki></strike>. There is precedent; see [[Cyrannus (system)]]. It is an example of plausible, researched, cited speculation, clearly marked as such, and is worthwhile. Failing that, there is always your User space. [[User:JubalHarshaw|JubalHarshaw]] 19:11, 22 June 2007 (CDT)
::I agree. The debate on Cyrannus is as close to the edge of fandom-derived speculation that I'd care to see on the wiki. DuMan's research may be enlightening. A few points: Yes, please do use the {{tl|plausible speculation}} tag on such an article. Also, in keeping with the wiki's mission, making this an essay is not recommended. But, using links and citations from the episodes, DuMan and others can add plausible support for the theories he expressed earlier, discarding or disputing what does not agree with the Cylons as portrayed. The FTL article, by the way (and in my opinion) is supported by the principles ''displayed'' in the episodes. While not explained, the process of moving from the place to place (without change in relative velocity before or after) screams "wormhole" and is supported by Ron Moore's [[naturalistic science fiction]] guideline, "no moving violations" on true-faster-than-light travel. I think DuMan has his work cut out for him in linking episode events that connect his research with the show, but it will fun to see him try, and should make for a very interesting article once it's ready. The links ''have'' to be there for this to be an acceptable article per the wiki's canonical or licensed product mission, IMO. --[[User:Spencerian|Spencerian]] 22:53, 22 June 2007 (CDT)
::That might work, if there can be a few references to back it up somewhat. We could also put it in [[Cylon Religion]]. That one talks more about religion in general and does already have an analysis section. This speculation might be more justifiable there than here. --[[User:Serenity|Serenity]] 04:52, 23 June 2007 (CDT)

R.Adair:

[[image:Tank.jpg|thumb|[[Sharon Valerii]] is reborn in a resurrection tank.]]

A '''resurrection tank'''<ref>{{bsgwiki term}}</ref> is a large tub where the consciousness of a deceased [[humanoid Cylon]] is [[Resurrection (RDM)|transferred to a new Cylon body]]. The tank contains a thick opaque gel where the new body is suspended.<ref>The [[Hybrid]] of a [[Basestar (RDM)|baseship]] is suspended in a similarly-designed pool, but is connected to the baseship via many conduits to her body and apparently cannot leave the pool.</ref> A blue light shines down onto the resurrected Cylon's head.

The tub apparently acts as a receiver from a Cylon download station (either planetary-based or via a [[Resurrection Ship]]) where the consciousness of a killed Humanoid Cylon is re-integrated into a new body to begin life anew. Other agents tend to the new body as its consciousness reforms, encouraging and comforting the recovered agent in a fashion that may be reminiscent to viewers as [[Wikipedia:Midwifery|midwifery]].

The [[Caprica-Six|copy of Number Six]] that plays a dominant role in the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies]] is resurrected in the tank, as is the ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]''-stationed [[Number Eight]] model formerly known as [[Sharon Valerii|Sharon "Boomer" Valerii]] ([[Downloaded]]).

The resurrection tank plays a principal role in [[boxing]] Cylons as well. The Cylon to be boxed is apparently killed and allowed to resurrect within the tank and just like the resurrection process, another Cylon is there to receive them. Instead of helping them to adjust to their new body, the Cylon removes a small data storage device from the side of the tank which is used to transfer the Cylon's consciousness. When the device is removed, the transfer is completed and the Cylon in the tank becomes lifeless. Apparently, a newly downloaded Cylon is too weak after the transfer to physically resist, aiding in the process ([[Rapture]]).

==Discovery==

[[Image:NewCaprica.jpg|thumb|right|'''New Caprica''', as seen from space]]
Lt. [[Margaret Edmondson|Margaret "Racetrack" Edmondson]] discovers the planet later known as '''New Caprica''' after her [[Raptor]] accidentally jumps to the wrong coordinates while on a [[Caprica Resistance|rescue mission]] to [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]].

Ground surveys reveal that New Caprica is a cold world with a harsh climate, and that only about 20% of the surface - a small temperate band around the equator - is habitable. The planet is located in a solar system surrounded by a dense nebula. The nebula renders [[DRADIS]] all but useless, which makes the planet strategically appealing as it theoretically would protect the planet from [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]] detection.

Excited by her discovery, Racetrack returns to the [[Mercury class battlestar|battlestar]] ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' with information and sensor readings on the planet. The mere prospect of setting foot on a planet causes great excitement amongst [[the Fleet (RDM)|the Fleet]] quickly dividing it into two factions - those who wish to stop running from the Cylons and colonize the planet, and those that do not.

==Colonization==

President [[Laura Roslin]] writes off colonization as unrealistic, given the harsh climate. However, the discovery of New Caprica happens to coincide with the impending presidential election ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]). Presidential candidate [[Gaius Baltar]] and running mate [[Tom Zarek]] seize upon colonization as their wedge issue, offering the Fleet the prospect of settlement under the presumption that Cylon technology will be unable to penetrate the nebula. Roslin disagrees with this assessment, but the majority of the travel- and war-weary survivors of [[The Fleet (RDM)|the Fleet]] find the idea of colonizing the planet enticing. Baltar and Zarek win a decisive mandate, and [[Laura Roslin]] is voted out of office. President Baltar's first executive order is to begin settlement, bringing an end to the Fleet's search for the planet [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]] ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

Shortly after Baltar's inauguration a [[Cylon detector|nuclear warhead]], smuggled off of ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' ([[Epiphanies]]), is detonated aboard ''[[Cloud 9]]'', destroying it and at least two other ships orbiting New Caprica. The incident will later have a devastating impact on the human settlers of New Caprica.

==One Year Later==

[[Image:NewCapricaCity.jpg|thumb|left|New Caprica City, complete with tents and a basic road infastructure]]
The population of New Caprica is concentrated in a small settlement called [[New Caprica City]]. The climate proves unforgiving, and there are major shortages of medical supplies and basic living materials. More than a year after colonization, most of the population continues to live in canvas tents. A small number of grounded ships also serve as living quarters.

Many among the population of New Caprica City, including [[Galen Tyrol]] and the [[Workers Union|workers' union]] which he leads, blame President Baltar and his lack of leadership for the majority of economic and social problems facing the settlers on New Caprica ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

Just over a year after colonization, the population of New Caprica City is 39,192 ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]). A small group of around 2,000 civilians remain in orbit in those ships incapable of making planetfall ([[Occupation]]).
<div style="clear: both;"></div>

==Cylon Occupation==

Three hundred and eighty days after settlement, the Cylons discover New Caprica after detecting and tracing the radiation signature of the nuclear warhead detonated on ''[[Cloud 9]]'' a year before. The Cylons jump into New Caprica's orbit with a fleet of [[Basestar (RDM)|basestars]]. ''Galactica'' and ''Pegasus'', in orbit above the planet, are caught by surprise and vastly outnumbered. With both ships at half strength, Commander [[Lee Adama]] persuades Admiral [[William Adama]] to escape New Caprica with the few ships orbiting the planet.

On the planet, President Baltar is confronted by a Cylon delegation consisting of [[Caprica Six]], [[Sharon Valerii|Sharon "Boomer" Valerii]] and a copy of [[Number Five]]. Left with no choice, Baltar surrenders to the Cylons on behalf of the majority of what remains of the human race ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

The Cylon forces are initially led by Caprica Six and Boomer under the sincere intention of establishing peace between the Cylons and the human race. However, they quickly lose their influence to the more militaristic Cylon models ([[Precipice]], [[Exodus, Part II]]). The Cylons become an occupying force on New Caprica, with President Baltar and his staff reduced to a puppet administration controlled by Cylon rule. Vice President Tom Zarek refuses to cooperate early in the occupation and is sent to a detention center ([[Precipice]]).

A band of human [[New Caprica Resistance|resistance]] fighters, regarded by the Cylon-occupiers as insurgents, begin to strike back against the Cylons. The resistance is significantly aided by an unknown, [[Felix Gaeta|inside source]] that passes them classified information from the Cylon government, allowing the resistance to wreak considerable havoc on the Cylons. This leads to the formation of The [[New Caprica Police]] (NCP), humans who volunteer to work for the Cylon authority. The New Caprica Police are regarded with both disgust and disdain by the majority of the planet’s human civilization. Considered to be Cylon collaborators, the NCP are forced to wear black ski masks to hide their identities in an attempt to protect themselves from human reprisal.

== The Battle of New Caprica and the [[Second Exodus]]==

:''See main article: [[Battle of New Caprica]]''

[[Image:New Caprica (Wide Shot).jpg|thumb|200px|New Caprica during the [[Battle of New Caprica]]]]
Based on a contingency plan developed prior to colonization by [[Saul Tigh]] and [[William Adama]], a [[Raptor]] is deployed from the hiding battlestars and regularly jumps into New Caprica's orbit in an attempt to contact the humans left behind. Concealed from Cylon detection by the nebula, the Raptor establishes contact with the resistance movement. With communication ties established, Adama and his military personnel devise a plan to evacuate the human prisoners. However, the plan's success hinges on the retrieval of the planet-bound ships' [[launch key|launch keys]]. Confiscated by the Cylons, these keys are necessary to activate the FTL drives on the grounded ships.

Admiral Adama deploys a two-Raptor team led by newly commissioned [[Sharon Agathon]] that covertly lands on New Caprica and successfully establishes contact with the resistance. Agathon is able to locate and retrieve the hidden launch keys while pretending to be a different copy of her Cylon model ([[Exodus, Part I]]) and they are secretly returned to their respective ships ([[Exodus, Part II]]). With the rescue attempt now under way, Pegasus Commander [[Lee Adama]] is ordered to provide escort protection for the hiding fleet to a pre-arranged location where they will rendezvous with ''Galactica'' if the rescue mission is successful, or continue the search for Earth alone if it is not. Admiral Adama then jumps ''Galactica'' to New Caprica. Once in orbit, ''Galactica'''s Raptors deploy [[swallow|decoys]], creating illusory targets that trick the Cylon's into believing they are chasing the two battlestars, scattering their fleet of basestars. Adama takes advantage of the Cylon's confusion by jumping ''Galactica'' directly into New Caprica's lower atmosphere, deploying [[Blue Squadron (RDM)|Blue Squadron]] and then jumping back into higher orbit. With Blue Squadron providing air cover, resistance fighters begin attacks on Cylon ground forces, liberate the [[New Caprica Detention Center]] and chaperone civilians to their designated ships which begin to launch and jump to the rendezvous point.

Back in orbit above New Caprica, a badly damaged ''Galactica'' is surrounded by four basestars. Adama, unable to jump away and without enough time to fix the ship's damaged FTL drive, resigns himself to defeat. At this moment, Commander Lee Adama, having ignored his father's order, arrives with ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' and diverts the Cylon attack on ''Galactica'' to his own ship. ''Galactica's'' crew is able to repair the ship's FTL drive, and upon the successful return of the ship's Viper squadron, escapes to the rendezvous point.

''Pegasus'', having left its Vipers to guard the escaping ships at the rendezvous point, is left with no fighter cover. The battlestar is mortally damaged and Commander Adama and his skeleton crew are forced to abandon the ship. Boarding Raptors, they escape to the rendezvous point. ''Pegasus'' collides with a basestar and explodes. After the explosion, ''Pegasus''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s starboard [[flight pod]] collides with another basestar and destroys it as well.

==Aftermath==

While the rescue mission is considered a success, approximately 2,000 humans die during the operation and the preceding four month long occupation.<ref>This number is calculated from all available population data. See the "Precipice" and "Collaborators" section of [[Survivor count]] for the details.</ref>

Casualties include [[Tucker Clellan|Tucker "Duck" Clellan]], one of ''Galactica's'' best Viper pilots who is driven to despair by the murder of his partner, [[Nora]] ([[Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance]]), and conducts a suicide attack on the NCP ([[Occupation]]); [[Ellen Tigh|Ellen Tigh]], who is poisoned by her husband for collaborating with the Cylons; and [[Maya]], who is killed while attempting to board her escape ship with her adopted baby daughter, the human/Cylon hybrid [[Hera]]. The child survives, but without the protection of her mother is left behind and recovered by the Cylons. Knowing he cannot escape with the rest of the human population [[Gaius Baltar]] elects to leave with the Cylons, at the invitation of [[Number Three]] copy [[D'anna Biers]].

With the humans gone, and with their possession and control of the hybrid-child finally realized, the Cylons see no strategic or logical reason to remain on the planet.
