Harbinger of Doom?[edit]

Sci Fi Channel has a dubious reputation when it comes to its own original series (note Farscape). Having only 13 episodes (which reflects season 1's initial allotment) may be for a number of factors, such as "less is more," for cost issues, or even committment. It's not that Sci Fi hasn't given the show enough advertising--far from it, IMO. I don't think it's got the best time slot, however. Friday was just fine, when Stargate fed its audience. Today, BSG holds well in ratings given the lack of a feeder show (A good one would be to have "Heroes" encore show play instead of "The Dresden Files," which seems to be an overused cop/sureality show a'la X-Files anyway). But it could and should do better. There's also the matter of the balance of action to character event shows, where this season isn't good in the space fighting that we all enjoy, and the overall mood; the audience really needs a pick-me-up show. The whole show needs to be dramatic, not depressing. --Spencerian 11:46, 15 February 2007 (CST)

If they can write 13 episodes as tightly as they did the first season, then it'll be a good thing. As involved as RDM and Eick are involved in all stages of the process, I'd imagine it's considerably easier to wrap your (their) head around, top to bottom, thirteen rather than twenty episodes. Also, the way I read some of the announcements the thirteen is a floor (that potentially they could pick up more if the ratings are favorable). My other reaction to seeing 13 episodes was that Season 5 is likely in the bag, if only to reach that magical (and to me, mysterious) tipping point for syndication. --Steelviper 12:04, 15 February 2007 (CST)
The moment they increase the action for the sake of ratings is the moment the show deserves to die. I like the action scenes alright, but only if they supplement a good episode and don't distract from more important things. The balance is fine at the moment, as there have been some very large action and story episodes. I also watch the show because of the deep character stuff, so anything of that is very welcome here.
I'm cautiously optimistic. Maybe they'll still increase there order. Maybe there'll be further 13 episode seasons. Who knows. Sure, things could be better, but I'll wait and see, before I join any of the typical and tiresome interweb pessimism. A 13 episode order has its advantages too and it's standard on cable anyways. --Serenity 12:07, 15 February 2007 (CST)
I think a 13-episode season will mean fewer fillers, which should result in fewer 'bad' episodes. I'm not saying all fillers are bad episodes (I liked Litmus, Collaborators, Unfinished Business and Taking a Break, to name a few), but bad episodes do tend to be fillers. Also, 13 seems to be the magic number: episodes 214 and 314 (Black Market and The Woman King) were the worst eps to date, IMO. As in Season 2, Season 3 seems to have a couple of consecutive fillers around eps 14-16, which is usually the least interesting part of a season. A 13-episode season is less likely to have this caveat and might actually be better, unless perhaps they 'linked' those three fillers (eps 14-16), i.e. make them about a cross-episode story.
Actually, the 13 eps instead of 20 isn't my biggest problem. It's that we have to wait for NINE FRAKKING MONTHS! --Catrope 14:37, 15 February 2007 (CST)
What goes for cows and countesses apparently goes for the production team as well. Hopefully that means that there won't have to be a mid-season break, and that they'll have plenty of time to execute (or be well rested). --Steelviper 15:08, 15 February 2007 (CST)
9 months til new series yes... but then the plan is to have the direct to DVD/telemovie about September time. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 15:34, 15 February 2007 (CST)
Ah. No rest for the weary, then. --Steelviper 15:38, 15 February 2007 (CST)
It's something, but it's still only two hours (equivalent to 2-3 eps). It'll probably be more interesting than 3 regular episodes, though. --Catrope 15:45, 15 February 2007 (CST)

Season split?[edit]

Just reading this and wondering whether anyone knows any more and whether it should be added or not?--Thetriangleguy 11:02, 3 September 2007 (CDT)

It needs to be substantiated a lot more than some AICN news piece... We should wait until we get confirmation from more legitimate news sources. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 11:13, 3 September 2007 (CDT)
That would really SUCK. Anyway, since neither Sci Fi nor RDM & Co. have responded yet, it's still a rumor and we should treat it as such. This means it's not gonna appear in our news section until it's been confirmed (or denied, which I'm hoping for). --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 11:17, 3 September 2007 (CDT)
Oh I agree (I'm not a fan of AICN). I just wondered if anyone knew anymore about it. I certainly hope it's not true--Thetriangleguy 11:20, 3 September 2007 (CDT)
ETA for Europe then sometime about 2012? Rubbish --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 12:45, 3 September 2007 (CDT)
Exactly. If Universal/NBC (whoever produces BSG) think they can stop torrenting by stretching a season over two years and backing out of their iPod deal, they've missed a lesson on making yourself popular. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 13:41, 3 September 2007 (CDT)
I have to wonder what this means for Amazon's Unbox as well... They too sell the episodes for $1.99 a pop. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 13:44, 3 September 2007 (CDT)
I also must wonder whether or not all this may be due to the rumors possibility of a WGA strike. See this for a overview. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 13:59, 3 September 2007 (CDT)
Sounds nasty. But the article you linked to says studios will want to put stuff through production before June 2008. Surely Season 4 will have finished (or be about to finish) by that time? --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 15:57, 3 September 2007 (CDT)
They may want the produced content as filler for during the strike, should it hit in June. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 16:48, 3 September 2007 (CDT)

4.08 Title[edit]

According to Michael Taylor [1]. Episode 8 is called "Sine Qua Non". --Deus 17:58, 16 November 2007 (CST)

Lot of data there, particularly "Razor" stuff. And the link to a Battlestar Wiki article on daggits was nice too. ;-) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 18:17, 16 November 2007 (CST)

Season 4 in March now[edit]

So apparently Season 4 is now going to premiere in March, not April, according to the Season 4 teaser trailer, which aired tonight after Razor. It's a really good trailer, but I can't find it anywhere, not on Scifi Pulse, or on Youtube, so you're just going to have to take my word for it now. I did find one review of razor online in which the writer comments on the March date, and additionally, peoples blogs are beginning to buzz about it. However, this is far from a good link, and if anyone can find anything better, I would encourage that person to replace the link I provided in the article. I just wanted to say something about it in the article right away. --OrionFour 03:36, 25 November 2007 (CST)

Oh somebody already updated it. Well yeah there you go, it's gonna be in March now. Hopefully something will come out in a newspaper tomorrow about the change, they like to cover stuff like that sometimes. --OrionFour 03:39, 25 November 2007 (CST)
Interesting development... Still, why then release the season 3 DVD set one full month after the premiere? Maddening. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 10:55, 25 November 2007 (CST)
Seriously, why even release the DVD way the frak out in April anyways, shouldn't it be released now, before Christmas? They already got the R4's being sold, so how much harder would it be to package a bunch of R1's? I've heard the theory about wanting to give Razor more time on the shelves, but I don't buy it, since Season 3 would turn much more profit than Razor over the holidays. --OrionFour 13:35, 30 November 2007 (CST)
Actually, there are quite a few releases coming out December... the 1980 dvd, the Season 1 HD-DVD set, and Razor. That's a lot, even by Universal Home Entertainment's standards. Plus you have to consider that the R2 and R4 sets pretty much suck, according to what I've read, and they don't have any special features whatsoever. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 14:03, 30 November 2007 (CST)
Ah ok, well that makes more sense. I guess it's also not entirely uncommon for the BSG DVD's to come out a long time after the last episode, although S3 is a record. So I can still complain about it ;) --OrionFour 23:55, 1 December 2007 (CST)

To add to this mess -- since that's what this all is -- the recent interview with RDM says April. We may want to add the caveat regarding April until we get a very definitive answer. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki — New 07:21, 30 November 2007 (CST)

trailer?[edit]

i just saw a trailer on aol for BSG season 4. i'm not sure if it is leaked or fan-made, but it looks the real deal. the trailer sports new battlestars (the "Titan" and the "Hades") titan and hades appear to be pegasus type battlestars. there was also another battlestar similar in apearence to chronos. and another type which (seems to) have 4 flight pods. they may be from flashbacks during the season but, given that one battlestar is seen flying in he ionian nebula the chanses are slim. or it could just be a hoax (even though the trailer seems to be taped off the "scifi" channel. just thought you'd like to know... ;D

you can watch the trailer through the link below

if the link dosen't work then copy and paste

It's felgercarb. Well produced felgercarb at that, tho. There are tell-tales signs all over the place, including the fact that they cropped the footage from the SFC promo airings... -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 23:07, 9 February 2008 (CST)
I should really say scaled, since that's what they did. Had they cropped it, they could have removed the SFC's hideous purple border sprite. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 09:20, 10 February 2008 (CST)
Anything with so much ship fanwankery can't be taken seriously. -- Serenity 06:04, 10 February 2008 (CST)

yeah, they did overephisize the battlestars... not the style of bsg... they did do a good job with the effects though -mystique

Number of episodes[edit]

Does "22 episodes" include Razor? Does it count it as two? OTW 22:18, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it's Razor and 20 normal episodes. Razor's production code is 401/402, which is why He That Believeth in Me is 403. -- Noneofyourbusiness 22:27, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
The producers generally talk in production numbers. So if Moore, Eick or Weddle talk about "episode seven", they actually mean the fifth aired one. That's a bit confusing, because news sources mix the numbering. -- Serenity 05:12, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
