Sam Adama is the brother of Joseph Adama and an enforcer in the Ha'la'tha, a Tauron-based criminal organization.

Both Adama and his brother, Joseph, came to Caprica as orphans from Tauron after their parents were killed in the Tauron Civil War. Their father was named William Adama, namesake of Sam's nephew. Joseph Adams, who changed his family name from Adama after he came to Caprica in part to escape the virulent anti Tauron racism, became a mob lawyer after the Guatrau of the Ha'la'tha paid for his law school education. In return Joseph became the lawyer for soldiers of the organization and also bribes public officials including judges to grease the wheels of justice in the Ha'la'tha's favor. Sam became an enforcer assassin for the organization. The two brothers have a very close relationship. Sam is very angry at the lost of his niece Tamara Adams and his sister-in-law, vowing to reek vengeance on those who murdered them in the suicide bombing on the Lev.

Joseph Adams is given an assignment delivering a message to the Caprican Minister of Defense Val Chambers when he shows independence from the Ha'la'tha, who aided Chambers in his political career. Joseph requests time to think about it and is granted that time by the boss. After a request from Dr. Daniel Graystone to use his mob connections to steal a critical piece of technology from the Vergis Corporation in which they could make perfect replicas of their daughters, Joseph takes up the assignment and goes to deliver the Ha'la'tha's message to the Minister. Chambers refuses to be intimidated and hurls racist slurs at Joseph, threatens an investigation of the Ha'la'tha and their lawyers. In response to this, the organization orders Sam Adama to assassinate Chambers and he murders him in his own bed by slitting his throat and stabbing him several times in the midsection.
