Global Defense Department

The Global Defense Department (GDD) is an internal law enforcement and intelligence service on the colony of Caprica, operating under the Caprican Department of Justice (CDJ).

History

In the years before the Fall, the GDD has a bureau in Caprica City which is underfunded due to complacency. Prior to the resurgence of the Soldiers of the One, agents of the GDD were tasked with routine investigative work, including stopping kids for curfew violations (CAP: "Reins of a Waterfall").

Following the STO attack on the MLMT train in Caprica City, however, Agents Jordan Duram and Youngblood are assigned to investigate and capture the organizers of that terrorist act (CAP: "Pilot", "Reins of a Waterfall").

Tracking a suspicious E-sheet message sent from the train shortly before it exploded, Duram and the GDD suspect Zoe Graystone is the perpetrator of the attack and focus on her for her connections to the monotheist movement (CAP: "Pilot"). Conducting a very public investigation, Duram is responsible for public outcry against Graystone and her parents Daniel and Amanda Graystone and their company Graystone Industries. Already a controversial aspect of Caprican life, Graystone Industries' holoband technology comes under scrutiny for the immoral activities that occur in V-world and for its perceived connection with Zoe Graystone joining a "killer cult" (CAP: "Rebirth, "Reins of a Waterfall").

• The GDD is similar in function to the present day United States' Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) or the British MI-5.
