Problems..[edit]

On the Babylon 5 Wiki? --Shane (T - C - E) 21:14, 22 August 2006 (CDT)

Yes. It's just really stagnant and The Great Machine is still using the 1.3.x series Mediawiki software. I recommended that they upgrade, but they didn't. Also, as was mentioned, it's not really well organized and B5 fans would be better off, in my opinon, with a wikified version of the Lurker's Guide. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 21:24, 22 August 2006 (CDT)
Yikes! 1.3.x. I go nutz. What lience do they use ebcause if it's it's open source... and you start your own wiki, which I might see in a few mintues "http://www.battlestarwiki.org/babylon5wiki/", use their content information. I'll help ya design it, but I have no skilz what so ever on Babylon 5. Never touched or watched the stuff. --Shane (T - C - E) 21:32, 22 August 2006 (CDT)
Well, you won't see it in a few minutes... I'm focusing my attention on the BSG stuff right now. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 21:47, 22 August 2006 (CDT)

Fatal error: Call to undefined method Title::isImagePage() in /home/admin/domains/battlestarwiki.org/w/includes/SkinTemplate.php on line 728

which I try to browse a category of images. Update a skin? --Shane (T - C - E) 19:44, 25 August 2006 (CDT)

Actually, I was updating it so as to add tabs to the image description pages on media. For example... The purpose is to link back to the image pages on the indivual language wikis, so the people can easily find out from their own description page as to whether or not the image is being used on their wiki. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 19:51, 25 August 2006 (CDT)
Good idea. :-) Can you transfer the extensions installed in a zip to my email. the svn. site of mediawiki is down and I can not download them. --Shane (T - C - E) 20:10, 25 August 2006 (CDT)
Not really an extension. Just merely some additions to SkinTemplate.php, which I'll send your way as soon as I can. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 20:18, 25 August 2006 (CDT)
no no... I'll take that as well, but I ment the files in the /extensions/ directory as well. cite.php and the like. The same ones used here so I can keep the HB the same way. :) --Shane (T - C - E) 20:23, 25 August 2006 (CDT)
Ah, ok. Thought you were speaking of the additions I had made to create the language tabs. Will do. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 20:26, 25 August 2006 (CDT)

Wikibits.js and CSS[edit]

I just checked my javascirpt console. I am working on the problem. The CSS seems also to have some unneeded values. I will work on this for XHTML reasons, but not a major concern. --Shane (T - C - E) 21:33, 26 August 2006 (CDT)

In wiki bits find addLoadEvent(createNavigationBarToggleButton); and change it to addOnloadHook(createNavigationBarToggleButton);. That should fix the problem. --Shane (T - C - E) 23:50, 26 August 2006 (CDT)
Grrr... my user test page still not working. Try chaging... addOnloadHook(createNavigationBarToggleButton); to hookEvent("load", createNavigationBarToggleButton);. --Shane (T - C - E) 05:53, 28 August 2006 (CDT)

User Login on german page does not work[edit]

Hello,

I can login here on the english page, but not on the german. Allthough my userpage "Tirkon" is there, the system says on "login" or "send me an e-mail", that there is no user "Tirkon". Could you please check this? Thank you. -- Tirkon 20:38, 1 September 2006 (CDT)

Tirkon, you have to re-register since the database are now seperated. Sign up under the same name and I will transfer all your old edits to your new "userid" number so you still have them. I am on the German Wiki also, here. --Shane (T - C - E) 20:41, 1 September 2006 (CDT)

Thank you. I have done the sign up. - Further question: Is it possible, that you send me this picture "Image:BSG_WIKI_SM.png" by mail. I want to use it in my german Wikipedia Account. I hope, I have your allowance. -- Tirkon 21:03, 1 September 2006 (CDT)
I think we decided on the Big W to not use that image because it's copyrighted style of BSG in the first place. Template:User Battlestar Wiki is what we use for Userboxs. --Shane (T - C - E) 21:08, 1 September 2006 (CDT)
Thank you once more. I do not know, how to change it that way, that it links to the german Battlestar Wiki. Could you please change it for me? -- Tirkon 21:25, 1 September 2006 (CDT)
The "Interwiki" admins have yet to change the system so it can work for cross lanagues. I will try to get back in touch with them to see what is going on. --Shane (T - C - E) 21:30, 1 September 2006 (CDT)
Possibly this will not work. I had trouble with the german administrators concerning this template. They do only want it on the my User-Page. There is a rule: It is not allowed, to have it as a public template on german wikipedia. Thus possibly the interwiki templates will not work there-- Tirkon 21:45, 1 September 2006 (CDT)
the Interwiki maps are global though out the wiki- global sites. The german admins have no clue. I talk to the sysops of the foundation and they said interwiki link will be updated in the next few day. --Shane (T - C - E) 21:50, 1 September 2006 (CDT)
O.K. Thanks for the informations. The template link did still not work. But in the meanwhile I have changed the link of the template as an internet link. And now it works. -- Tirkon 22:16, 1 September 2006 (CDT)
I'll check it in a few days to see if they fixed the interwiki link database and update it back to the correct one. --Shane (T - C - E) 22:19, 1 September 2006 (CDT)

Around?[edit]

Posted a possaible solution to the problem on your media talk page. It might be the fact that the server is not configured for SVG. Because when I view an SVG file on Wikipedia, it creates the image. http://media.battlestarwiki.org/images/c/cf/Flag_of_Canada.svg (shows the code) v. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/cf/Flag_of_Canada.svg (shows the flag) --Shane (T - C - E) 16:14, 4 September 2006 (CDT)

GOT IT! http://hb.battlestarwiki.org/w/images/a/a4/Flag_of_the_United_States.svg Yeah. Follow the stuff on the webpage I did on your media talk page. You will have to restart the server for it to work on all the servers. --Shane (T - C - E) 16:30, 4 September 2006 (CDT)

Joe,

There are many sources out there where you can get these images but the place I actually snagged them from was Galactica Station, and specifically from here:[1].

Redirect Image and Mediawiki JS[edit]

I have no idea on what you did last time to fix the "redirect" image, but you got it. :-) Second thing is the MediaWiki Image JS. Needs to be re-done. Which I knew the file u worked off. :-) --Shane (T - C - E) 10:13, 11 October 2006 (CDT)

The fix for the "redirect" image is simply removing the transparency of the png, using a white background. That's what's causing it to look the way it does using the BSGbook scheme. As for the file I edited for the tabs, it's "includes/SkinTemplate.php". Before I was called to my father's office, I was trying to get the tabs to show up on all the image pages across all the wikis. I've commented out the code, since it didn't work as well as I'd like, but the edited file is on server should you choose to have at it. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 13:54, 11 October 2006 (CDT)
Ok, the tabs are working on the media wiki. (I still want to get the tabs cross-wiki as well for the Image namespace, so it makes navigation easier.) I've also fixed the png file. The reason why it screws up on BSG Wiki is because the PNG is transparent and the text (and arrow as well) are black, so that's why it looks like crap in transparency mode. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 18:44, 14 October 2006 (CDT)
Roger. I'll work on it in the HB. --Shane (T - C - E) 02:06, 16 October 2006 (CDT)

Strange Code on BS Media Wiki[edit]

I'm getting strange error messages when using the Media wiki site. It's still up, but at the upper left corner I have errors that attempt to write themselves. The error includes several lines. Here's one.

new contributor - audio episode guides?[edit]

Hello! Sorry to be a newbie, but, I've been a fan of the BSGWiki for quite some time, and I finally got a working headset and decided to give something back to the site if I could - I recorded the episode guide for '33' according to the script given on the Audio project page, and I was wondering where I should upload it for verification and such. If I did everything right, I should be able to record most of the audio for the episode guides within the week if you guys want - this seems like an interesting idea, I like doing voiceovers and audio work, and the Lords know I can't edit a wiki to save my life XD

Just looking to be pointed in the right direction, and asking the admin for help might get me there ^^ Thank you, Kobayashihikaru 14:41, 22 October 2006 (CDT)

Hello! Nothing wrong with being a newbie! Anyway, all files are to be uploaded to the Media Wiki. Just a question, though, how big is the MP3 file, because I may have to increase the upload limit on the server. Look forward to hearing back from you! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 14:57, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
Whoa, thank you for the quick response ^^ I just finished recording the audio for the third episode guide, for Bastille Day, and so far the largest of the three is 2.3 MB in size - I tried to keep the file size down as much as I could out of compassion for those of us with dialup and for the BSGWiki server. Kobayashihikaru 15:33, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
Cool! Look forward to reviewing your reads! -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 15:35, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
Okay, I uploaded the files to the MediaWiki, but I'm not sure where I have to go to flag them for review. The verifications page is coming up as an 'edit' link, and I somehow don't feel like I have the authority to make the page for the stuff I did to be reviewed at. >.> I'm going to provide links to the audio files here, so you don't have to go hunting for them - I -think- these links should work...
listen , listen , listen
Again, sorry for being clueless, just trying to help the wiki where I can. ^^ Kobayashihikaru 15:51, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
No need to be sorry. :-) Actually, the verifications page hasn't been set up yet, so that's why your getting the edit page. For now, just post them on talk page for the audio development project. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 15:56, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
By your command~ They're on the talk page for Audio Development. I'll be away for a few hours for a martial arts class, I might record more episode guides afterwards. Thank you for being so welcoming to a newb like me ^_^ Kobayashihikaru 15:59, 22 October 2006 (CDT)
